Blessed Is the King

03/29/2026

There are moments in life when celebration comes easily. When everything feels right, when hope is rising, and when it seems like breakthrough is just around the corner. In those moments we are filled with so much joy, excitement and anticipation.

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:38

That is the scene in this verse.

Jesus is entering Jerusalem.

People are shouting. Cloaks are being laid down. Palms are waving. The crowd is declaring what they believe to be true: “Blessed is the King!”

But here’s the tension… they were right about who He was, but many were wrong about what He came to do.

They were expecting a conquering king. A political deliverer. Someone who would overthrow Rome and restore earthly power. What they got instead was a suffering Savior. A King who would not take a throne—but a cross.

And yet, that does not make their praise any less powerful. In fact, it makes it more profound.

Because even when they didn’t fully understand the path, they were declaring the right truth: Jesus is King.

I think about how often we do the same thing. We praise God when we believe He is about to do what we expect. We celebrate when we think the outcome is going to align with our desires. But what happens when His path looks different?

What happens when the King we’re praising doesn’t meet our timeline… or our expectations?

This moment in today’s verse invites us into a deeper kind of worship. Not just praise based on outcomes, but praise rooted in identity. He is King… whether I understand the plan or not. He is Lord… whether the road leads to a miracle or a cross.

And notice what they shouted: “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

That phrase echoes back to the angels at Jesus’ birth. It’s as if heaven and earth are coming together in this moment. The King who came in humility is now being recognized publicly. But the peace He brings is not just external, it’s eternal. It’s not just about circumstances, it’s about reconciliation between God and man.

I’ve seen this play out in real life. There are moments when everything in you wants to celebrate because things are going your way. But there are also moments when worship becomes a choice. When the diagnosis comes. When the door closes. When the prayer feels unanswered.

And in those moments, the question becomes: Is He still King?

Because if He is, then He is worthy of praise, not just when I understand, but when I trust.

The crowd praised Him on the way in… but many of those same voices would fall silent days later.

May ours not.

May we be the kind of people who declare, “Blessed is the King,” not just in the highs, but in the uncertainty. Not just on Palm Sunday, but on every ordinary and difficult day in between.

Lay down something before the King today, your plans, your expectations, your need for control.
Speak out loud a declaration of who Jesus is, regardless of what you’re facing.
Choose to worship Him not for what He does, but for who He is.

Today’s challenge:
Praise Jesus as King today, even if your circumstances don’t match your expectations.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the King who came in the name of the Lord. Forgive me for the times I’ve praised You only when things made sense to me. Teach me to honor You in every season, to trust Your ways, and to worship You with a steady and faithful heart. You are worthy of my praise in every moment. Reign in my life today. In Your name, amen.
