For Such a Time as This
03/14/2026
There are moments in life when everything seems to converge at once, responsibility, pressure, fear, opportunity, and purpose. Today’s verse is one of those verses that reaches through the pages of Scripture and grabs hold of the heart.
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 (NIV)
Mordecai’s words to Esther were not just about a political moment in Persia. They were about divine placement. They were about the truth that God often positions His people strategically before they fully understand why.
Esther had not asked for the palace. She had not chosen the crisis. She had not planned the danger that now stood in front of her. Yet there she was. In the very place where her voice, her courage, and her obedience could make a difference.
That is often how God works.
We usually want clarity before obedience. We want all the details before we move. We want assurance that if we step out, everything will work out neatly and quickly. But God often reveals purpose in real time. He places us in a moment, and then invites us to trust Him in it.
I think about how many people feel unqualified for the very thing God is asking of them. A parent trying to lead their family through a hard season. A business leader facing decisions that affect real people. A pastor carrying the weight of shepherding others while also trying to hear clearly for himself. A friend sitting across the table from someone in pain, wondering what to say. In those moments, it is easy to think, Surely someone else would do this better.
But Esther reminds us that God does not make random placements.
The job you have, the family you are in, the relationships around you, the season you are walking through, the influence you carry, however large or small it may seem, none of it is accidental. God sees the bigger picture when we only see the immediate pressure.
What makes Esther’s story so powerful is that her assignment was not convenient. It was costly. Speaking up could cost her comfort. It could cost her security. It could even cost her life. Yet purpose rarely arrives wrapped in ease. Sometimes purpose comes disguised as interruption. Sometimes calling feels like risk. Sometimes obedience means stepping forward while your knees are shaking.
That is real faith.
Faith is not the absence of fear. Faith is deciding that obedience matters more than fear.
There have been seasons in life when the assignment in front of me felt bigger than my confidence. Times when the need was real, the window was small, and the stakes felt high. In those moments, I have learned that God does not call us because we are the most polished. He calls us because He is sovereign. He is able to use surrendered people in significant ways. The question is rarely, “Am I enough?” The better question is, “Will I trust the God who placed me here?”
Esther had a choice. She could remain silent, or she could step into the purpose God had woven into her story. Mordecai’s challenge still echoes today: “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
That means your life has Kingdom significance. Your presence in this moment matters. Your obedience matters. Your voice matters when it is surrendered to God. The compassion you show, the truth you speak, the prayer you pray, the stand you take, the encouragement you offer, the courage you model, God can use all of it.
You may not be standing in a palace, but you are standing somewhere on purpose.
And maybe today, more than asking God to remove the moment, you need to ask Him to show you how to walk faithfully in it.
Take a few minutes today and ask yourself where God may be calling you to step up rather than shrink back. Pray specifically for courage in the place where you have been hesitant. Encourage one person today who may need to be reminded that their life has purpose. Choose one act of obedience today, even if it feels uncomfortable.
Today’s challenge:
Do not dismiss the place you are in. Ask God to help you see it as an assignment, not an accident.
Lord, thank You that You are never random in the way You lead our lives. Thank You for placing us where You want us, even when we do not fully understand it. Give us courage like Esther. Help us not to shrink back in fear, but to step forward in faith. Show us where our voice, our presence, and our obedience are needed today. Remind us that we are not here by chance, but by Your purpose. Strengthen us to trust You in the moments that feel bigger than us, and let our lives bring honor to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
