Teach Me to Walk in Your Will

01/27/2026

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
— Psalm 143:10 (NIV)

There are moments in life when the path ahead feels uneven, full of questions, obstacles, and uncertainty. David writes this psalm from a place of weariness and pressure. He isn’t asking God merely for relief; he’s asking for direction. Teach me. That phrase carries humility. David acknowledges that knowing God’s will isn’t automatic, it’s learned through surrender, attentiveness, and trust.

Notice how personal this request is: “for you are my God.” David isn’t seeking generic wisdom or a quick fix. He’s anchoring his request in relationship. Obedience flows best from intimacy. When God is truly our God, His will becomes something we desire, not something we dread.

Then comes the beautiful promise: “may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” David doesn’t ask for a life without trouble; he asks for steady footing. Level ground speaks of stability, clarity, and safety, even when circumstances remain hard. God’s Spirit doesn’t always remove the hills, but He teaches us how to walk without stumbling. He leads us out of confusion, away from self-reliance, and into a way of living that reflects His heart.

Many of us want God to tell us where to go, but Psalm 143:10 reminds us that God is more interested in teaching us how to walk. When we yield daily, our choices, our attitudes, our plans, we discover that His Spirit is already guiding, already steadying, already making the way clearer than we expected.

So today, slow down enough to pray David’s prayer. Let God teach you. Let His Spirit lead you. Trust that He delights in guiding His children onto solid ground.

Action steps:
• Begin today by praying, “Lord, teach me to do Your will,” before making decisions.
• Identify one area where you’ve been striving instead of surrendering.
• Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity, not speed.

Challenge for today:
Choose obedience in one small, unseen way and trust God with the outcome.

Prayer:
Father, You are my God. I confess that I don’t always know the right way to go, but I want to walk in Your will. Teach me. Shape my heart to desire what You desire. Holy Spirit, lead me onto level ground, steady my steps, quiet my fears, and help me trust You fully today. Amen.
