Strength and Dignity

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
— Proverbs 31:25–26 (NIV)
There is something powerful about a person who carries both strength and dignity in the way they live.
The Proverbs 31 passage is often read as a description of a virtuous woman, but the deeper truth is that it paints a picture of the kind of character God forms in someone who walks closely with Him. Strength and dignity are not things we put on for the world to see; they are the fruit of a life anchored in God.
Notice the phrase “clothed with strength and dignity.” Clothing is what people see first. It’s what covers us and represents us. When someone is clothed with strength and dignity, it shows up in how they walk through life—how they respond under pressure, how they treat others, and how they carry themselves when things are uncertain.
The verse goes on to say “she can laugh at the days to come.” That doesn’t mean life is always easy or predictable. It means she has a quiet confidence about the future because her trust is not in circumstances but in God.
I remember the day I was diagnosed with CLL. Hearing the word leukemia has a way of slowing time down. Your mind begins to race ahead to questions about treatments, timelines, and what the future might look like. Even as someone who teaches and trusts God’s promises, I’ll admit there was a moment where the uncertainty felt heavy.
But Caryn’s response was remarkable.
She didn’t panic. She didn’t spiral into fear. Instead, she carried a calm strength into that moment. With a steady voice she said something simple but powerful: “God’s not surprised by this, and He’s already in tomorrow.”
That’s what strength and dignity look like.
It’s not pretending life is easy. It’s choosing faith in the middle of uncertainty. It’s the ability to face tomorrow not because you know what will happen, but because you know Who is walking with you.
The verse ends by saying, “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” Words matter. In moments when fear could easily take over, wisdom-filled words can anchor a heart and steady a family.
In a world filled with anxiety about the future, God invites us to live differently. When our lives are rooted in Him, we can carry strength in difficult moments, dignity in uncertain seasons, and wisdom in the words we speak to others.
Action Steps
• Ask God to clothe you today with strength and dignity.
• When fear about the future rises, pause and remind yourself that God is already there.
• Choose words today that bring wisdom, peace, and encouragement to someone else.
• Thank God for the people in your life whose faith steadies you.
Challenge for the Day
When uncertainty tries to steal your peace today, respond with faith instead of fear. Let your confidence in God shape both your attitude and your words.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being the anchor of our lives. In seasons when the future feels uncertain, remind us that You are already there. Clothe us with strength and dignity so that our lives reflect Your peace. Guard our words so they bring wisdom and encouragement to others. Help us trust You more deeply with every step ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
