Behold the Lamb Who Takes Away Sin
03/30/2026
Have you ever said something so profound that your family and friends still talk about it today? I think we have all had moments in life when everything changes with just a few words.
This is one of those moments.
“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
John 1:29 (NIV)
John the Baptist sees Jesus walking toward him and doesn’t introduce Him as a teacher, a miracle worker, or even a king. He says, “Look… the Lamb of God.” That phrase would have stopped everyone in their tracks.
Because every person listening would have understood the weight of it.
For generations, lambs had been sacrificed as a covering for sin. Families would bring their best, spotless, without defect, perfect. Then, they would offer it as a substitute for their sin. Blood was shed so that sin could be dealt with, even if only temporarily. It was a constant reminder: sin is serious, and the cost is high.
And now John points to Jesus and says, “There He is.”
Not a temporary covering… but a permanent solution. Not one sacrifice among many… but the final sacrifice for all. Not just for a nation… but for the world.
I imagine what it must have felt like for those standing there. Some probably didn’t fully understand yet. Others may have felt hope begin to rise. And some may have felt the weight of their own sin in a new way.
But here’s what makes this so powerful for us today…
Jesus didn’t come to manage your sin. He came to take it away.
That means the guilt you carry, the regret that replays in your mind, the things you wish you could undo, He didn’t come to minimize those… He came to remove them.
I remember sitting with someone who felt completely disqualified from God. Their past was messy. Decisions had piled up. And they said, “I just don’t think God could ever look at me the same.”
And I asked them, “When Jesus went to the cross, how much of your sin was still in the future?”
All of it.
Which means when He chose the cross, He already saw it all and still said, “I’ll take that.”
That’s the Lamb of God.
This verse is an invitation to stop striving and start receiving. To stop trying to earn what has already been paid for. To stop carrying what Jesus already took upon Himself.
So today… don’t just glance at Jesus.
Look.
Behold.
Fix your eyes on the One who took your place.
Because when you truly see Him as the Lamb… it changes how you see everything else.
Take a moment today to reflect on what Jesus has taken away from your life. Not just in theory, but personally.
Write down one area where you’ve been carrying guilt or shame and intentionally surrender it to Him in prayer.
Remind yourself out loud: “Jesus already paid for this.”
Extend that same grace to someone else today. If He has taken away your sin, you can release others from what they owe you.
Today’s challenge:
Don’t carry what the Lamb already took. Walk in the freedom He purchased.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Lamb of God, thank You for taking away my sin. Not covering it, not delaying it, but removing it completely. Help me to truly see You today, to behold You for who You are. Teach me to live in the freedom You’ve already secured, and to extend that same grace to others. I lay down every weight of guilt and shame at Your feet. Thank You for loving me enough to take my place. In Your name, Amen.
