Strong Where It Matters Most

02/02/2026

“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV)

There’s something deeply countercultural about this verse. Paul doesn’t just accept weakness, he says he delights in it. That’s not the language of denial or fake positivity. It’s the language of a man who has discovered where real strength actually comes from.

Paul had pleaded with God to remove his “thorn in the flesh.” We’re never told exactly what it was, but we are told God’s answer: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” That reframes everything. Weakness is no longer a liability to hide, it becomes the very place where Christ’s power is put on display.

Most of us spend a lifetime trying to eliminate weakness. We manage perceptions. We polish resumes. We cover insecurity with activity and competence. But Paul says something radical: when we stop pretending we’re strong enough, we finally become usable enough.

Think about how often God has done His best work through people who felt inadequate. Moses didn’t think he could speak. Gideon thought his family was insignificant. Peter collapsed under pressure. Yet God didn’t wait for them to feel strong, He met them right where they were honest.

Weakness has a way of stripping us down to what’s real. It forces us to rely on grace instead of grit, prayer instead of pride, obedience instead of control. And in that space, when we’ve run out of ourselves, Christ shows up with strength that doesn’t run out.

Paul isn’t glorifying pain. He’s glorifying Christ in the pain. He’s learned that hardship doesn’t disqualify him; it positions him to experience God more deeply. When strength comes from us, it fades. When it comes from Christ, it endures.

So maybe today the question isn’t, “How do I get stronger?”
Maybe it’s, “Where am I willing to trust Christ with my weakness?”

Action Steps:
• Be honest with God about an area where you feel insufficient or overwhelmed.
• Resist the urge to hide weakness and bring it into prayer instead.
• Ask God how He wants to reveal His strength through your limitations today.

Today’s Challenge:
Instead of fighting your weakness, surrender it. See what Christ does with what you give Him.

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that I often try to be strong on my own. I hide what feels broken and weak, fearing it will hold me back. Today, I choose a different way. I offer You my weakness, my limitations, and my need. Let Your grace be enough. Let Your power rest on me. Teach me to trust You where I feel least capable, and remind me that my strength is found in You alone. Amen.
