Peace That Changes Everything
03/12/2026
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:1 (NIV)
There is a kind of peace that the world talks about that is really just the absence of conflict. When things are calm, when the bills are paid, when relationships are good, when health is steady, we say we’re at peace.
But the peace Paul talks about in Romans 5 is something much deeper.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith…” In other words, because of what Jesus has already done on the cross, our standing before God has been permanently changed. We are no longer enemies. We are no longer trying to earn our way back into His favor. Through Christ, the relationship has been restored.
And the result is peace with God.
That phrase is incredibly important. Paul doesn’t say we merely feel peaceful. He says we have peace with God. That means the war is over. The tension between our sin and God’s holiness has been resolved through Jesus.
I remember a time when my mind was racing with responsibility, ministry decisions, family needs, business planning, coaching…..basically it was my life everyday. But this season was different. I was missing something in my life. On the outside things looked steady, but internally there was a constant pressure to get everything right.
Then, one morning, sitting quietly with my Bible and a cup of coffee before the day started, I read the verse we are looking at today. Then it hit me, right there in the middle of that verse, what I was missing during this time.
Peace with God.
Not peace because I performed well and got everything done.
Not peace because everything was under control.
Peace because Jesus already settled the most important issue of my life.
That realization changed everything for me and it should change everything for you as well. When you know the most important relationship in your life is secure, it quiets your heart. It reminds you that you are not striving for God’s approval, you are living from it.
The cross didn’t just forgive your sin. It restored your relationship. And that restoration brings a deep, steady peace that circumstances cannot take away.
Action Steps
• Take a few minutes today to reflect on the phrase “peace with God.” Let it sink in that your relationship with Him is secure through Christ.
• When anxiety starts to rise today, pause and remind yourself: “The most important thing has already been settled.”
• Spend time thanking Jesus specifically for making peace possible through the cross.
Challenge for the Day
Whenever stress or pressure tries to take over today, quietly repeat this truth: “Because of Jesus, I have peace with God.”
Prayer
Lord, thank You for making peace possible through Jesus. When my mind starts to race and life feels overwhelming, remind me that the most important issue has already been settled at the cross. Help me live today from the peace You have given, not from fear or striving. Let that peace shape my thoughts, my words, and my actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
