Choosing Generosity Over Convenience

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
— Hebrews 13:16 (NIV)
It’s easy to think of worship as something we do with our voices on a Sunday morning, songs sung, hands raised, prayers whispered. But Hebrews 13:16 gently reminds us that worship continues long after the music fades. God is pleased not only with what we say to Him, but with how we live for Him.
The word sacrifice stands out. Doing good and sharing doesn’t always come naturally or conveniently. Sometimes it costs us time when we’re already tired, resources when we feel stretched, or emotional energy when we’d rather stay guarded. Yet Scripture tells us that these everyday acts, often unseen and uncelebrated, rise to God as offerings He delights in.
Imagine a neighbor who notices a single mom struggling to juggle work and kids and quietly drops off a meal. Or a business owner who chooses fairness over profit because integrity matters more than margins. Or a believer who listens patiently to a hurting friend instead of rushing to fix them. These moments may feel small, but in God’s economy, they are sacred. They are sacrifices that reflect His generous heart.
Jesus Himself modeled this life. He didn’t just preach love, He lived it, shared it, and ultimately gave Himself for us. When we choose to do good and share with others, we’re echoing His life in ours. We’re showing the world what the gospel looks like in motion.
Today, remember this: your kindness matters. Your generosity matters. Even when no one else notices, God does. And He is pleased.
Action steps:
• Look for one intentional way to do good today, no matter how small.
• Share something you have: time, encouragement, resources, or attention.
• Ask God to help you see opportunities to bless others instead of rushing past them.
Today’s challenge:
Do one act of quiet generosity without telling anyone about it, except God.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your generosity toward me. Open my eyes to see where I can do good and share with others today. Give me a heart that reflects Yours. Willing, compassionate, and obedient. May my life be an offering that brings You joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
