The Goodness Found in Waiting

01/24/2026

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.”
— Lamentations 3:25 (NIV)

There’s something honest and raw about the book of Lamentations. It doesn’t rush past pain or slap a spiritual cliché on suffering. It sits in the rubble and names the grief. And right in the middle of that ache, this verse quietly rises like a breath of fresh air: “The Lord is good…”

Not life is good. Not circumstances are good. But the Lord is good.

Jeremiah writes these words while surrounded by loss. Jerusalem was destroyed, dreams were shattered, the future, uncertain. Yet he dares to say that God’s goodness is not canceled by hardship. In fact, God’s goodness often becomes most visible when everything else is stripped away.

Notice who experiences that goodness: “those whose hope is in him… the one who seeks him.” This isn’t passive wishing. This is active, gritty trust. Hope here is not optimism; it’s anchoring your soul to God when you have every reason not to. Seeking Him doesn’t mean having all the answers, it means refusing to look away, even when your heart is tired.

Waiting on the Lord is rarely comfortable. It stretches us. It exposes our impatience and our desire for control. But waiting also creates space, space for God to remind us that He is still near, still faithful, still good. Sometimes the goodness of God doesn’t look like immediate rescue. Sometimes it looks like strength for another day, peace that doesn’t make sense, or a quiet assurance that you are not alone.

If you’re in a season of waiting today, this verse is an invitation. Not to rush God. Not to force clarity. But to lean in, to seek Him right where you are, and to trust that His goodness has not run out.

Action Steps:
Pause today and honestly name what you’re waiting for, without filtering it.

Set aside a few minutes to seek God, not for answers, but for His presence.

Practice hope by thanking God for one way He has been faithful in the past.

Today’s challenge:
Resist the urge to hurry God. Choose to seek Him instead.

Prayer:
Lord, you see the waiting places of my life, the questions, the uncertainty, the weariness. Help me to anchor my hope in You and not in outcomes I can control. Teach me to seek You daily, trusting that Your goodness meets me even here. I place my hope in You again today. Amen.
