Strength to Seek Him

02/22/2026

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”
— 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NIV)

There are moments in life when all of us instinctively look everywhere except where we should.

We look to our calendar for control. We look to our bank account for security. We look to other people for affirmation.
We look inward for strength.

But David gives us a different direction: “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”

This verse is part of a song of thanksgiving. The ark of the covenant had just been brought to Jerusalem. There was celebration, worship, gratitude. Yet in the middle of rejoicing, David reminds the people of something important, don’t just celebrate what God has done. Keep seeking who He is.

It’s possible to enjoy God’s blessings and slowly drift from His presence.

I remember a time when everything felt full. Calendar full, responsibilities full. Meetings stacked on meetings. Decisions waiting on decisions. From the outside, it looked like momentum. But internally, I could feel something thinning out.

One morning, before the sun came up, I sat in the quiet of my office, cup of coffee, Bible open but my mind racing. I wasn’t burned out. I wasn’t discouraged. I was just operating on fumes of my own strength. Have you been there?

And in that stillness, this verse came alive: “Look to the Lord and his strength.”

It wasn’t a rebuke. It was an invitation.

I realized I had been looking to my experience, my preparation, my leadership instincts, all good gifts from God, but I hadn’t slowed down long enough to truly seek His face. I had been serving Him without fully sitting with Him.

That morning, nothing outward changed. The schedule was still full. The responsibilities were still there. But something shifted internally. I stopped asking God to bless what I was building and started asking Him to build what He wanted to bless.

That changed something in me.

Seeking His hand is natural. We all want His provision, His protection, His power. But seeking His face is relational. When you seek someone’s face, you’re not just asking for something, you’re pursuing intimacy. You’re saying, “I want You.”

David says, “Look to the Lord and his strength.” Why? Because ours runs out.

There are days in leadership when the weight feels heavy. As a pastor, as a husband, as a father, as someone who carries responsibility, there are moments when my own strength is simply not enough. And that is exactly the point. God never intended for you to live off your own supply.

His strength is not a supplement to yours. It is the source.

And notice the word: always.

Not just in crisis.
Not just when you’re exhausted.
Not just when things fall apart.

Always.

Seek Him when things are thriving. Seek Him when the vision is clear. Seek Him when you feel strong.

Because the secret to sustained strength is sustained seeking.

If you only seek Him when you are desperate, you will constantly live on spiritual adrenaline. But if you seek Him daily, consistently, quietly, you will walk in steady strength.

The people of Israel were celebrating the ark, the symbol of God’s presence. Today, through Christ, His presence dwells in us. We don’t chase a location. We cultivate communion.

So today, pause. Before the emails. Before the meetings. Before the responsibilities. Lift your eyes and say, “Lord, I’m looking to You. I’m seeking Your face.”

Action Steps:
• Start your day with five uninterrupted minutes simply acknowledging God’s presence.
• Replace one moment of stress today with a whispered prayer: “Lord, I look to Your strength.”
• Read this verse aloud three times and personalize it.

Challenge for the Day:
Catch yourself when you begin relying on your own strength and intentionally turn your gaze back to Him.

Prayer:
Father, I confess that I often look everywhere else before I look to You. Forgive me for seeking Your hand more than Your heart. Today I choose to look to You and Your strength. Teach me what it means to seek Your face always, not just in need, but in love. Renew my strength, steady my heart, and keep my eyes fixed on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
