Casting What We Carry
03/09/2026
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
There are moments in life when the weight we carry becomes heavier than we ever expected.
Sometimes it’s a diagnosis. Sometimes it’s a strained relationship. Sometimes it’s uncertainty about the future. And sometimes it’s simply the quiet accumulation of responsibilities that seem to stack higher each day.
Peter writes these words to believers who were facing real pressure, real persecution, real uncertainty, and fear about what tomorrow might bring. Yet his instruction is both simple and powerful: cast your anxiety on God.
The word “cast” is not a gentle word. It’s active. Intentional. It carries the picture of throwing something off your shoulders and placing it somewhere else.
In other words, God never asked us to carry what only He can handle.
Have you ever had one of those aha moments? I sure have. I remember sitting with someone who was overwhelmed by everything happening in their life. Job loss, financial uncertainty, sleepless nights, the kind of weight that makes your chest feel tight. At one point they said, “I know I’m supposed to trust God, but I don’t know how to stop worrying.”
Of course, that’s when this verse came to mind. But the aha moment was when I said the verse. It’s what’s not written that hit hard.
God doesn’t say, ignore your anxiety. He doesn’t say, pretend it’s not there.
He just says, bring it to Me.
Anxiety often grows in isolation. It whispers that we must solve everything ourselves. But Peter reminds us of something deeply personal about God: He cares for you.
Not just humanity in general.
Not just the church collectively.
You.
Your sleepless night.
Your unanswered questions.
Your fear about what tomorrow might hold.
The Creator of the universe l, the one who spoke everything into existence, invites us to take the things that keep us awake and place them in His hands.
And when we do, something begins to change. The circumstances may not immediately get better, but the burden no longer sits on our shoulders alone.
God carries what we cannot.
Action Steps
• When anxiety surfaces today, pause and name the specific worry.
• Turn it into a prayer immediately rather than letting it spiral in your mind.
• Write down one thing you are trusting God with today and consciously “release” it to Him.
• Remind yourself throughout the day: God cares for me.
Challenge for the Day
Every time a worry enters your mind today, instead of replaying the fear, repeat this truth:
“Lord, I cast this on You because You care for me.”
Prayer
Lord, You know the things that weigh on my heart today. Some are small, some feel overwhelming, but none of them are hidden from You. Teach me to release what I cannot control and place it in Your hands. Replace my anxiety with trust and my fear with peace. Remind me today that I am not carrying life alone, you are with me, and You care deeply for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
