United in Spirit, Rooted in Christ

Unity, true unity, is powerful. When the body of believers can fully function in trusting God mighty things can happen. Im not talking about forced unity that calls us to agree on everything or to become identical in personality or preference. No, true unity is something deeper: having the same mindset as Christ. That’s a different kind of unity.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.”
— Romans 15:5
I’ve seen this play out not just in church, but in leadership spaces. I’ve had the privilege of serving on the boards of two non-profits, Christian Women’s Job Corps and Bread for Life International. In both places, there were moments where unity was tested in a very real way.
The first was while serving as president of Christian Women’s Job Corps. A budget was presented that would have left us in the negative. We had enough in savings to cover it, but the board didn’t want to touch those reserves. So naturally, the conversation shifted to what parts of the program we could cut.
In the middle of that “ununified” discussion, I felt prompted to stop everything and ask a simple question, one that Jesus asked often: “Where is your faith?”
I reminded them that our God is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and that He can and will provide everything we need. I asked them to consider passing the budget, not out of ignorance, but out of agreement, that we would trust God in unity to show up.
They agreed.
Within two weeks, we received funding from an estate that was double the amount of our deficit.
The second moment came with Bread for Life International. It was my first board meeting, and there was a need for a bus for the school ministry. The consensus around the table was clear: “We don’t have the funds. We can’t do it.” There were two of us though that felt differently.
Again, I felt that same stirring.
I looked at them and said, “Do you not believe that our God is bigger than what we can comprehend?” I encouraged us to be unified and take the need to Him in prayer and trust Him to provide.
Again, within two weeks, the exact van we needed was gifted to us by someone in Cameroon.
In both situations, I was praying internally, trusting that God would come through, not just for provision, but to reveal His faithfulness. Because unity in Christ isn’t just about getting along, it’s about agreeing in faith. It’s about aligning our mindset with His, even when the numbers don’t make sense and the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
The mindset of Christ doesn’t lean on fear, it rests in the Father.
Paul reminds us that this kind of mindset doesn’t come from willpower alone. It comes from God, the One who gives endurance and encouragement. That means when situations feel uncertain, when resources feel limited, when logic says “hold back,” we can still move forward in faith together.
Christ’s mindset is this:
He trusted the Father completely. He walked in obedience, even when it didn’t make sense to others. He knew that provision follows purpose.
Unity built on Christ doesn’t just bring peace, it releases power.
Action Steps
• Identify an area where fear or logic has been leading your decisions, invite God into it.
• Pray with someone else today about a need, choosing agreement in faith rather than doubt.
• Declare out loud: “God is my Provider, and I will trust Him.”
Challenge for the Day
Step into one situation today where you choose faith over fear and invite someone else to believe with you.
Prayer
Father, You are Jehovah Jireh, my Provider. Forgive me for the times I’ve leaned on what I can see instead of trusting in who You are. Give me the mindset of Christ, one that trusts fully, believes boldly, and walks in unity with others. Strengthen my faith and help me to encourage it in those around me. Let my life be a testimony of Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
