Heaven’s Investment Strategy

11/03/2025

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”
- Matthew 6:19 (NIV)

Jesus’ words here are a gentle but powerful reminder that not everything we value lasts. He’s not saying that possessions or savings are wrong, after all, stewardship is a biblical virtue. What He is saying is that the focus of our heart reveals the focus of our treasure.

Take president Ulysses S Grant for instance. After leaving the presidency he became a partner in Grant and Ward, an investment firm. He acquired a massive amount of wealth for his family only to have his business partner embezzled everything. This forced Grant to file bankruptcy. He died penniless leaving his family with massive amount of debt.

This shows that earthly treasures are fragile. They can be stolen, corrupted, or simply fade away. But heavenly treasure, the kind we build through faith, generosity, compassion, and obedience, is eternal.

Think of a missionary who gives up personal wealth to share the gospel, or a neighbor who sacrifices time to care for an elderly friend. Those acts may never appear on a balance sheet, but they’re recorded in heaven’s economy. Jesus calls us to invest in what can’t be lost, people, purpose, and His Kingdom.

When we choose to forgive instead of resent, to give instead of hoard, and to love instead of ignore, we’re transferring our assets to an account that never declines in value.

Action Steps:
1. Take a quick inventory of what you treasure most, time, money, reputation, relationships.
2. Ask: “Is this investment eternal or temporary?”
3. Redirect one tangible area of your life toward Kingdom impact this week, generosity, service, or prayer.

Today’s Challenge:
Before you make a purchase or decision today, ask yourself, “Is this building my earthly comfort or my eternal legacy?”

Prayer:
Lord, help me to value what You value. Teach me to see beyond the temporary and invest my heart, my time, and my resources in what matters most to You. May my treasures reflect my trust in You, not in the things of this world. Amen.
