Crucified with Christ

10/31/2025

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
— Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

There are few verses that capture the Christian life more powerfully than this one. Paul declares that his old life, his identity, ambitions, and self-effort has been nailed to the cross with Jesus. What remains is not a refurbished version of Paul but a redeemed one. The “I” that once pursued its own righteousness is gone, replaced by the indwelling presence of Christ Himself.

Imagine a caterpillar that has struggled and strained to move along the ground. Then, through transformation, it becomes a butterfly, soaring where it once crawled. The butterfly doesn’t go back to being a caterpillar. In the same way, when we surrender to Jesus, we aren’t simply improved; we are made new. The life we now live is sustained by His Spirit, empowered by His grace, and defined by His love.

Paul’s words are both humbling and freeing. To say “I no longer live” is not a loss, it’s liberation. No longer do we bear the burden of proving our worth, chasing approval, or carrying guilt. Christ, who loved us and gave Himself for us, now lives through us. Every act of kindness, every word of truth, and every step of faith becomes an expression of His life flowing through ours.

If you’ve been feeling distant from God or weary from striving, let this verse remind you: Christ already lives within you. You don’t have to invite Him to show up, He’s already home in your heart. What He asks is that you yield, trust, and let His life shape yours from the inside out.

Action Steps:
• Take five minutes today to reflect on what parts of your old life still try to take control.
• Surrender them in prayer, naming them out loud.
• Write down one way you can let Christ live through you today, maybe through forgiveness, patience, or courage.

Today’s Challenge:
Before you make any decision today, pause and ask, “Is this Christ living through me?” Let that question guide your steps.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me enough to give Your life for mine. Help me to remember that I have been crucified with You, that my worth, my purpose, and my strength now come from You alone. Live through me today. Let my thoughts, words, and actions reflect Your heart in everything I do. Amen.
