“Fix Your Eyes on What Is Unseen”

10/28/2025

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

Life has a way of drawing our attention to the visible, the bills on the counter, the diagnosis in hand, the relationships that wound, and the uncertainty that weighs heavy. The apostle Paul reminds us, however, that the visible is not the whole story. What we can see is fleeting, but what we cannot see, God’s eternal purpose and presence, is what truly lasts.

Imagine a painter working on a massive mural. Up close, the brushstrokes may look chaotic, dark colors, rough lines, and strange shapes. But step back, and you see how every stroke contributes to a masterpiece. In the same way, what we see in this life may seem confusing or even painful up close, but God’s eternal design gives meaning to every moment when viewed through the lens of eternity.

Paul knew this truth firsthand. Beaten, imprisoned, and misunderstood, he could have easily given in to despair. But he chose to focus on the unseen, on heaven’s glory, on the presence of Christ, and on the eternal reward that made temporary suffering seem “light and momentary.”

When you fix your eyes on what’s unseen, your circumstances lose their power to control your joy. Hope replaces worry. Faith overcomes fear. You begin to live not as a victim of circumstance but as a citizen of eternity.

Action Steps:
1. Take five minutes today to list the things that are worrying you, then next to each, write what eternal truth from God’s Word speaks to it.
2. Practice gratitude for the unseen blessings in your life: peace, forgiveness, salvation, and love.
3. Each morning this week, start your day by saying aloud, “Today I choose to see with eternal eyes.”

Challenge:
Don’t let what’s temporary determine your attitude today. Ask God to shift your focus from the fleeting to the forever.

Prayer:
Father, help me to fix my eyes not on what I see around me but on what You are doing within me. When life feels heavy and confusing, remind me that Your eternal plan is at work even in the unseen. Strengthen my faith to live for what lasts forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
