Safe in His Name
10/17/2025
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
— Proverbs 18:10 (NIV)
There’s something powerful about a name. A name can bring comfort, authority, and identity. When a child is frightened, they cry out for their parent by name because they know that name represents safety and love. Likewise, when life overwhelms us, we have a name to call on that carries divine power and protection: the name of the Lord.
In ancient times, fortified towers were built high and strong, often with thick walls and watchmen guarding the top. These towers were a place of refuge when enemies approached. To enter the tower was to be shielded from harm. In the same way, God’s name , representing His character, strength, and faithfulness, becomes our tower. When we call on Him, we step into His protection.
When fear rises, when anxiety grips, or when uncertainty clouds your path, you can run to the Lord in prayer and find safety. You don’t have to build your own fortress of control or self-sufficiency. His name, Jehovah Jireh (Provider), Jehovah Shalom (Peace), Jehovah Nissi (Victory),
Jehovah Rafa (Healer) and Jesus, the Name above all names, is already your refuge.
A friend of mine who is a firefighter said that in a blaze, “you don’t run from the fire; you run through the right door.” That’s how it is with God. We don’t run aimlessly from danger, we run to the One who holds the keys of protection and peace.
Action Steps:
1. When fear strikes today, pause and simply whisper, “Jesus.” Let His name bring peace to your heart.
2. Write down one area of your life where you need God’s protection — and pray over it daily this week.
3. Memorize Proverbs 18:10 and declare it every morning before you start your day.
Challenge:
When life feels unstable, don’t try to be your own tower. Run to the Lord, not last, but first, and rest in the safety of His name.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your name is my refuge and strength. When the storms of life come, help me to run to You without hesitation. Remind me that in You, I am safe, secure, and never alone. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
