Bread for the Soul
10/16/2025
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
— John 6:35 (NIV)
When Jesus spoke these words, He wasn’t standing in a bakery or beside a table full of food. He was speaking to people who had just witnessed Him miraculously feed thousands with five loaves of bread and two fish. Their stomachs were full, but their hearts were still empty. Jesus used that moment to teach a deeper truth: physical food satisfies for a moment, but only He can nourish the soul for eternity.
Think about it like this, how often do we try to fill our spiritual hunger with things that never last? Success, relationships, possessions, even religious activity can temporarily satisfy, but they leave us longing for more. Jesus says, “Come to Me.” Not to a system, not to a self-help plan, not even to a church program, but to Him.
Unfortunately we all try everything we can to find peace. We volunteer, travel, and even pursued higher education hoping to fill the void we feel and can’t explain. It takes most of us to come to a place of total exhaustion and brokenness before we finally call out to God.“God, if You’re real, I need You to feed this hunger in my soul.” Then we read today’s verse and realized for the first time that the hunger we felt wasn’t a curse, it was a calling. Jesus was inviting us to come and believe.
That’s what He’s doing for you, too. He’s not just offering bread; He is the Bread, the only one who truly satisfies.
Action Steps:
1. Spend time in prayer today asking God to reveal areas where you’ve been feeding on things that don’t truly satisfy.
2. Read John 6 in its entirety and reflect on how Jesus connects physical and spiritual nourishment.
3. Share a meal with someone this week and use it as a reminder to talk about the “Bread of Life.”
Today’s Challenge:
Before you eat your next meal, pause and thank Jesus not just for the food on your plate, but for being the Bread that sustains your soul.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Bread of Life. Forgive me for chasing after things that cannot fill me. Teach me to find my satisfaction in You alone. Feed my soul with Your presence and let my life reflect the fullness I have in You. Amen.
