Redeemed and Restored

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
Ephesians 1:7 (NIV)
Have you ever bought something that was broken, something others saw as worthless and then restored it into something beautiful? That’s what God has done for us through Jesus. When Paul wrote these words to the Ephesians, he was reminding them, and us, that our worth isn’t found in what we’ve done, but in what Christ has done for us.
“Redemption” is a word that comes from the marketplace. It means “to buy back” or “to set free by paying a price.” In ancient times, slaves could be redeemed by a payment made on their behalf. Paul paints a vivid picture here, Jesus has paid the ultimate price with His own blood to set us free from the slavery of sin.
Think about it: we weren’t just forgiven; we were purchased by grace. The cross wasn’t a mere symbol of suffering, it was a transaction of love. Every lash, every nail, every drop of blood was a payment made in full for your freedom and mine.
The way Jesus did this reminds me of story about a boy who built a model sailboat. After weeks of work, he proudly set it afloat on a nearby pond, only to watch the wind carry it away. Heartbroken, he searched but couldn’t find it. Months later, he saw his boat in the window of a local shop. He went in, paid the price, and reclaimed what was his. As he walked out holding it close, he whispered, “You’re twice mine now, I made you and I bought you.”
That’s what God says to you and me: “You are twice Mine, I made you and I bought you.”
Action Steps:
1. Take a moment to thank Jesus for redeeming you through His sacrifice.
2. Reflect on areas where you might still live like a prisoner instead of the redeemed child you are.
3. Share your redemption story with someone who needs to hear that grace still reaches deep.
Today’s Challenge:
Live today as someone who knows they’ve been bought with a price. Walk in the freedom and confidence that forgiveness brings.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for redeeming me with Your blood. Help me to never take lightly the grace that set me free. Let my life reflect the freedom You purchased for me. Teach me to forgive others as You’ve forgiven me. Amen.
