Love That Lasts

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)
When Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, he wasn’t describing a romantic kind of love; he was defining agape, the love that comes from God and flows through us to others. This kind of love isn’t based on feelings or attraction but on choice and character. It’s the kind of love that takes root in patience when others test us and blossoms in kindness when life gives us reasons to be harsh.
Think about it this way: love is not reactive, it’s proactive. Patience holds back when it wants to snap. Kindness steps forward when others step away. Love doesn’t compare itself with others or keep score; it doesn’t brag about its goodness. It’s humble, steady, and faithful.
A story is told of a husband who every morning left a cup of coffee on the nightstand for his wife before he left for work. Some days she thanked him; other days, she was too tired to notice. Yet, every morning, the coffee was there. That’s love in motion, consistent, patient, and kind, even when unrecognized.
The Corinthian church was full of gifted people, but Paul reminded them that gifts without love are noise without meaning. Love is what gives value to every act of service and every word spoken. Without love, even the greatest accomplishments lose their eternal weight.
Action Steps:
1. Show patience today when someone frustrates you, pause before reacting.
2. Do something kind for someone who can’t repay you.
3. When pride creeps in, remember: love doesn’t boast, it serves quietly.
Today’s Challenge:
Find one situation where you can choose love instead of reacting emotionally. Let patience and kindness lead your response.
Prayer:
Lord, help me love like You love, patiently, kindly, humbly. Teach me to respond to others with grace instead of pride. Let my words and actions reflect the love that never fails. Amen.
