Faithful and Just to Forgive
10/09/2025
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
- 1 John 1:9 (NIV)
There’s something freeing about honesty, especially with God. In our human relationships, confession can feel risky. We fear judgment, rejection, or disappointment. But when we come before God, confession doesn’t lead to condemnation, it leads to cleansing.
John reminds us that forgiveness isn’t based on our worthiness but on God’s faithfulness and justice. Because Jesus paid the price for our sins, God can forgive us justly, He isn’t ignoring our sin, He’s cleansing it through the cross. Imagine standing in a downpour after a long, dusty day, every bit of dirt and grime washing away until you’re clean again. That’s what God does for the repentant heart.
There’s an old story about a young boy who accidentally broke a window while playing ball. Terrified, he hid behind the shed, expecting punishment. But when his father found him, instead of scolding, he extended his arms and said, “Come here, son.” Tears flowed, not from fear, but from relief. That’s a picture of our Heavenly Father, always ready to embrace the one who comes clean before Him.
When we confess, we aren’t informing God of something He doesn’t know; we’re agreeing with Him about what’s true. Confession restores fellowship. It’s not just about saying “I’m sorry,” it’s about stepping back into the light where grace flows freely.
Action Steps:
1. Take a few quiet minutes today to ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart.
2. Confess anything that’s been weighing on you, speak it plainly to God.
3. Thank Him for His forgiveness and receive it fully.
4. Extend the same grace to someone else today.
Today’s Challenge:
Don’t carry what Jesus already carried to the cross. Lay it down, be cleansed, and walk in freedom.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and justice. Thank You that through Jesus, I can come clean and be made new. Help me to walk in honesty before You, never hiding what You already know. Purify my heart today, Lord, and let me live as one forgiven and free. In Jesus’ name, amen.
