Go and Make Disciples
09/19/2025
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
- Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
Jesus’ words here are often called The Great Commission. They were His final instructions before ascending into heaven, which gives them weight and urgency. He did not say, “Stay where you are and hope people find their way.” Instead, He said, “Go.” Christianity is not passive, it’s active. It’s not about keeping the Good News locked up inside our church walls but about carrying it out into workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, and even across the globe.
It’s like a football coach giving his team a play during the final seconds of the game. No player would sit on the bench and say, “I’ll just cheer from here.” Everyone would know their part mattered. In the same way, Jesus has handed every believer a role in His mission. We may not all travel overseas, but we are all called to be missionaries where we stand, whether that’s at the grocery store, in our office, or around our own dinner table.
To “make disciples” means more than sharing information. It means walking alongside people, teaching them how to follow Jesus, modeling His love, and helping them grow in faith. Baptism becomes the outward sign of this inward transformation, a declaration that one has stepped from death to life, from lost to found.
When we obey this call, we become part of something far bigger than ourselves. We join the ongoing story of God reaching every tribe, tongue, and nation with the saving power of Jesus Christ.
Action steps to help on your journey:
Look for one person today you can encourage in their faith or invite into a conversation about Jesus.
Pray for opportunities to be a light in ordinary places, your home, workplace, or community.
Consider who in your circle you can disciple, not just evangelize, walking with them in their growth.
Today’s Challenge:
Step outside your comfort zone and share something about your faith with at least one person today.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for entrusting me with the mission to make disciples. Give me courage to speak when I am timid and compassion to love those who are far from You. Help me to live in a way that points others to Your grace. May my life reflect the love of the Father, the truth of the Son, and the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
