Set Your Heart Above
09/10/2025
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
— Colossians 3:1 (NIV)
Paul’s words to the Colossians are a reminder of who we are and where our true focus should be. If you have accepted Christ, you have been raised with Him. That means the old life is gone, and the new life is here. But here’s the challenge: even though our lives are hidden with Christ, we still live in a world filled with distractions, temptations, and demands pulling us in every direction.
Think about when you’re trying to listen to a conversation in a crowded room. Unless you lean in and set your focus on the person speaking, you’ll miss their words. In the same way, Paul calls us to “set our hearts on things above.” This isn’t a casual glance heavenward, it’s a daily choice, a deliberate leaning into God’s presence and perspective.
Imagine the difference this makes: Instead of being consumed by worry about tomorrow, we remember that Christ reigns today. Instead of seeking approval from people, we look to the One who sits at the right hand of God. Instead of clinging to earthly possessions, we store up treasures in heaven.
When we set our hearts above, we begin to see life differently. Our values shift, our priorities change, and even the way we handle conflict, success, or hardship reflects the One who raised us to new life.
Action steps to help on your journey:
Begin your day by consciously turning your focus heavenward—pray before you pick up your phone.
Write down one thing you are overly focused on here on earth, and surrender it to God today.
Find a verse about heaven or eternity and meditate on it throughout the day.
Today’s Challenge:
Pause three times today, in the morning, afternoon, and evening, then and ask yourself: Am I setting my heart above right now, or am I stuck below?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for raising me with Christ. Help me not to get entangled in the temporary things of this world, but to keep my heart fixed on You. Teach me to live with eternity in mind, reflecting Your love, hope, and peace in all I do. Amen.
