Keep on Asking, Seeking, and Knocking
09/02/2025
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
– Matthew 7:7 (NIV)
When Jesus spoke these words during the Sermon on the Mount, He painted a picture of persistence in prayer and faith. Notice the action words: ask, seek, knock. They are progressive and intentional. Asking is verbal, seeking is active, and knocking is persistent. Jesus is inviting us into a relationship with God where we are not passive, but engaged, trusting that our heavenly Father delights in responding to His children.
Think about a child asking a parent for something. Children rarely ask once and then stop. They ask repeatedly, often with urgency and boldness, because they trust their parent’s love. In the same way, Jesus encourages us not to hold back with God. He wants us to bring our needs, desires, and questions before Him, and to do so with faith and perseverance.
This verse is not about getting everything we want, like a blank check. Instead, it’s about aligning our hearts with God’s will and discovering His blessings when we keep drawing near. God sometimes answers right away, sometimes later, and sometimes with something better than we imagined. But the promise is sure: those who ask receive, those who seek find, and those who knock will see doors open.
Action steps to help on your journey:
Start your day by asking God for guidance and wisdom in one specific area of your life.
Spend time seeking God in His Word this week, perhaps starting with the Psalms.
Identify a “door” you’ve been hesitant to knock on, whether it’s a relationship, opportunity, or step of faith and bring it boldly before God in prayer.
Today’s Challenge:
Be intentional. Write down one prayer request and commit to asking, seeking, and knocking in faith for the next 7 days.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a loving God who hears me when I call. Help me to come before You with boldness and persistence, trusting that You know what is best. Teach me to align my desires with Your will, and give me the patience to wait and the faith to keep knocking until Your perfect answer comes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
