Victory Through Jesus

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
—1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV)
Life can often feel like a series of battles, some small, some seemingly insurmountable. Whether it’s battling fear, temptation, grief, guilt, or even death itself, the struggle is real and at times overwhelming. But today’s verse reminds us of one central truth that changes everything: We don’t fight for victory, we fight from victory.
Paul, writing to the Corinthian church, has just spent the entire chapter proclaiming the reality and power of the resurrection. He argues that Jesus didn’t just rise from the dead, He conquered death, once and for all. And because He rose, we too have victory. Not just someday in the sky, but right now, in our daily battles.
Imagine watching your favorite team in a championship game. You already know the final score, they win. But you’re rewatching the replay, and even when they fumble or fall behind, you’re not worried. Why? Because you know the outcome.
That’s what Paul is reminding us of: the final score is already written. Death has lost its sting. Sin no longer has the final word. Because of Jesus, we win.
We can walk through heartbreak, health scares, loss, and every spiritual struggle not with fear but with faith, because our Champion has already overcome. This victory is not something we earn or achieve. It’s a gift, a grace-given victory that we receive through Jesus Christ.
So when discouragement creeps in, when defeat feels certain, remind yourself: Victory is mine in Jesus. Not because you’re strong enough, smart enough, or good enough, but because He is.
Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.
Start your day with a prayer of thanksgiving for the victory Jesus has already secured for you.
Write down one area in your life where you feel defeated, and then declare victory over it in Jesus’ name.
Encourage someone else today who may be feeling like they’ve lost, remind them of the truth of 1 Corinthians 15:57.
My challenge for you is this:
Walk today with the confidence of someone who knows how the story ends. Whatever you face, say aloud: “Thanks be to God! He gives me the victory through my Lord Jesus Christ.”
Father, thank You for the victory that is mine through Jesus. When I am weary from the fight, remind me that the war has already been won. Help me to live in light of the resurrection, not in fear, but in faith. May I be a witness to others of the hope and triumph found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
