Fearless Trust

06/14/2025

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
- Proverbs 29:25 (NIV)

There is something universal about the fear of what others think. It creeps in subtly, whether it’s the anxiety of being judged, the pressure to conform, or the desire to gain approval. This fear can paralyze, manipulate, and even control the direction of our lives. Today’s verse calls it what it is: a snare. A trap.

Imagine a bird caught in a net. It flutters, struggles, and wears itself out trying to break free. That’s what happens when we let the opinions of others dictate our decisions. We lose ourselves trying to please people who may never truly understand our calling, our convictions, or our journey.

But there’s a better way: trust in the Lord. That’s where true safety is found. Not necessarily safety from criticism, but safety from losing our identity in Christ. When we live for God’s approval rather than man’s applause, we find a freedom that no fear can steal.

Consider Peter in the New Testament. When he denied Jesus three times, it was fear of people that snared him. But after Pentecost, filled with the Spirit, he boldly proclaimed Christ in front of thousands, even when it cost him dearly. What changed? He shifted from fearing man to trusting in the Lord.

This proverb doesn’t promise an easy life, but it offers a safe life, a soul anchored in God’s truth, not tossed by public opinion.

Here are some things you can to do to help you on your journey.

Ask yourself today: Whose opinion has too much power in my life?

Write down one decision you’ve been delaying due to fear of judgment.

Replace fear with faith by reading Psalm 27 or Isaiah 41:10.

Say aloud, “God, I trust You more than I fear them.”

My challenge for you is this:
Step out in faith today in an area where you’ve felt stuck because of people-pleasing. Make the call. Have the conversation. Take the step. You answer to an Audience of One.

Lord, I confess that too often I let the fear of people guide my choices. Forgive me for placing their opinions above Your truth. Help me trust in You with my whole heart. Be my safety, my shield, and my courage. I want to live boldly for You. Amen.
