Unchanging Goodness

“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
- Psalm 100:5 (NIV)
Have you ever had a moment when life felt unpredictable, when the world shifted beneath your feet, and the people or plans you trusted suddenly failed you? In times like that, we long for something, someone, unchanging. Psalm 100:5 gives us that anchor: “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
This verse is a powerful reminder that no matter what is happening around us, the character of God never shifts. He doesn’t love you more on your best days and less on your worst. His goodness is not dependent on our performance, our feelings, or the ever-changing winds of culture. His love endures. His faithfulness never quits.
I once met a woman in her eighties who had buried two husbands, survived a battle with cancer, and lost a child. I asked her how she kept her faith so strong, and she said with tears in her eyes, “Because every time I thought it was over, He reminded me He was still good.” Her life didn’t shield her from pain, but it did reveal a faith rooted in a God who never left her side.
This verse is also a generational promise. Maybe you’re the first believer in your family. or maybe you’re praying over children or grandchildren who seem far from God. Take heart. His faithfulness continues through all generations. What God starts, He finishes. What He promises, He fulfills. Even when we can’t see it, He is weaving goodness and mercy into every thread of our story.
Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.
Start today by writing down three ways you’ve seen God’s goodness in your life recently.
Thank Him specifically for His enduring love—especially in times you didn’t deserve it.
Pray for the generations after you. Speak Psalm 100:5 over your children, grandchildren, or spiritual sons and daughters.
My challenge for you is this:
Be a living echo of this verse. Wherever you go today, let your words and actions reflect the truth that “the Lord is good.” In your workplace, at home, in the grocery store, let your faith in God’s unchanging goodness shine bright in a flickering world.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being good, not just sometimes, but always. Thank You that Your love is not temporary or conditional, but it endures forever. Help me trust Your faithfulness even when I cannot see it. Let my life be a testimony to generations of how faithful You are. Keep my heart fixed on Your unchanging nature and teach me to reflect Your goodness in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
