The Inheritance of the Kingdom
05/23/2025
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’”
— Matthew 25:34 (NIV)
Have you ever walked into a room and felt completely unworthy to be there? Maybe it was an exclusive banquet, a prestigious meeting, or even a family gathering where everyone seemed to have it all together, except you. Now imagine the King of all creation looking you in the eyes, smiling, and saying, “Come, you belong here. This place, this kingdom, it’s been prepared just for you.”
That’s the breathtaking promise of Matthew 25:34.
This verse is part of Jesus’ teaching about the final judgment, where He separates the sheep from the goats based on how they lived out their faith. But what’s astounding isn’t just the reward, it’s the relationship. “Blessed by my Father.” “Take your inheritance.” This isn’t a wage earned; it’s a gift received. It’s not about performance; it’s about presence. The presence of a heart that loved, served, and reflected the King.
Jesus is speaking to those who didn’t even realize the weight of their kindness. They fed the hungry, welcomed the stranger, clothed the naked, and visited the imprisoned, not to be noticed, but because love compelled them. And in doing so, they honored the King Himself.
I remember a pastor friend of mine telling me about a woman in his church named Linda. Quiet, never on stage. But week after week, she’d bring meals to shut-ins, send handwritten cards to the sick, and pray fervently for people by name. She never sought attention, yet her life preached a sermon louder than any microphone could. She lived Matthew 25 without fanfare. He told me that one day he asked her why she did this. Her response, “Because Jesus would.”
This verse reminds us that God has been preparing something for us long before we ever started preparing for Him. Since the creation of the world, the Kingdom has had your name on it, not because of what you can do, but because of who you are in Christ.
Here are a few things you can do today to help on your journey.
Reflect
Who in your life could use a tangible expression of love today?
Serve
Choose one way to serve someone this week without expecting anything in return.
Encourage
Remind someone they are loved and seen by God just like Jesus does for us.
Live like someone who’s already been invited into the Kingdom. Serve, love, and give, not to earn anything, but to reflect the King who gave everything.
Father, thank You for preparing a place for me, not because I deserve it, but because You love me. Help me to live today with Kingdom eyes. Let me see the hungry, the lonely, the broken, and the weary as You see them. May my life echo the compassion of Jesus, not to earn Your favor but to reflect it. Use me to build Your Kingdom one small act of love at a time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
