Unshakable Love

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
There are few verses in Scripture that proclaim the depth and certainty of God’s love as powerfully as these. Paul writes with confidence, not just hope, “I am convinced.” This is not a passing feeling or emotional reassurance. It’s a declaration of spiritual reality. And it’s one that has sustained countless believers through every kind of trial.
Think about it: What are the things in your life that have made you feel distant from God? Is it the weight of your past? The sting of rejection? A season of doubt, or a moment when fear overwhelmed faith? Maybe you’ve lost someone you love, and you’ve wondered if God’s love went with them.
Paul addresses it all. Death. Life. Supernatural beings. Present struggles. Future worries. Physical heights or emotional depths. And in case he missed anything, he adds “nor anything else in all creation.” Nothing. Absolutely nothing can drive a wedge between you and God’s love if you are in Christ Jesus.
In 2010, the Chilean mining accident left 33 men trapped underground for 69 days. Families above ground prayed and waited. And when the men were finally rescued, one of them, Mario Sepúlveda, emerged declaring, “There were actually 34 of us. God never left our side.” Even in the deepest, darkest pit, God’s love was present.
That’s the kind of love Paul is describing, relentless, all-encompassing, never-failing love that reaches through every barrier.
If God’s love is that secure, then we can live boldly. We can walk through trials with peace. We can love others generously because we know we’re loved unconditionally.
Here are a few ways to live this out on your journey.
Write down one fear or struggle, then write next to it: “This cannot separate me from God’s love.”
Encourage someone who feels unloved or forgotten.
Meditate on Romans 8 throughout the day, read it slowly, and let it wash over your heart.
Live like you are fully loved because you are. Let no guilt, fear, or failure convince you otherwise. Walk in the freedom of a love that never lets go.
Father, thank You for Your unwavering love. When I doubt, remind me. When I fear, comfort me. Help me to live today grounded in the truth that nothing can separate me from Your love through Jesus. May that truth shape how I see myself, how I face my challenges, and how I love others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
