The Echo of a Life Sent
05/18/2025
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”
— Romans 10:14 (NIV)
Have you ever heard an echo in the mountains or a canyon? Your voice bounces off the walls and returns, sometimes stronger than you imagined. That’s exactly how the gospel works through us. When we speak the name of Jesus, when we tell His story, our words echo through eternity in the lives of those who hear.
In today’s verse, Paul is building a powerful argument: salvation is for everyone, Jew and Gentile alike. But then he stops and makes this point clear: people can’t believe in Jesus unless they’ve heard of Him. And they won’t hear unless someone tells them. And someone won’t tell them unless they are sent.
It’s a domino of divine purpose: Sent. Speak. Hear. Believe. Call. Be Saved.
This verse puts the weight of the mission squarely on the shoulders of believers, you and me. If we know Christ, then we’ve been sent. We don’t need a microphone or a pulpit, just a willing heart and an obedient tongue.
Think of someone like Edward Kimball. He was a Sunday school teacher with a heart for young men. He was nervous about sharing Jesus with a teenager named Dwight, but he pushed through the fear. That teenager? Dwight L. Moody, who led thousands to Christ. Kimball never preached to stadiums, but his quiet faithfulness rippled through history.
Who’s your Dwight? Your neighbor? Your barista? A coworker drowning in hopelessness?
You don’t have to have all the answers. Just the willingness to speak. Because someone’s eternity might be waiting on your obedience today.
Here are some steps you can take to today to help you on your journey.
Pray for one person you know who needs to hear about Jesus.
Look for an open door to share even a simple encouragement or testimony this week.
Invite someone to church or a Bible study, offer to go with them.
Remember: your job isn’t to save, it’s to speak. God handles the rest.
Don’t silence the echo. Let your life preach. Be the voice someone needs to hear today. Speak His name boldly, and let Heaven handle the results.
Father, thank You for the gift of salvation through Your Son. I know that without someone telling me, I would still be lost. Give me courage today to be that “someone” for another. Open my eyes to see those around me who are searching. Let my words carry the hope of Christ, and may the Holy Spirit do what only He can do—bring hearts to believe. Use me, Lord. I am sent. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
