You Are Not Forgotten
05/04/2025
“But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’”
— Isaiah 43:1 (NIV)
There’s something deeply personal and comforting about being called by name. It implies intimacy, knowledge, and relationship. In today’s verse, God doesn’t just speak to a nation; He speaks to individuals, He speaks to you. He reminds His people that He created them, He formed them, He redeemed them, and, most profoundly, He claims them. “You are mine.”
This verse was originally given to the people of Israel during a time of fear, captivity, and uncertainty. They felt abandoned, forgotten, and broken. But in one powerful statement, God tells them, and tells us, exactly who we are and whose we are.
Imagine a child who has wandered too far from home and is now lost. Panic sets in. But then they hear a familiar voice, calling their name. Not a shout of anger, but a gentle, loving call that says, “You’re safe. Come back. I’m here.” That’s what God is doing in this verse. It’s not just about national restoration, it’s about personal redemption.
God says, “Do not fear.” Why? Because you are not alone. Because your worth doesn’t come from your performance or your past, but from the One who made you, redeemed you, and calls you His own.
Let this sink in: God knows your name. Not just your label. Not your title. Not your reputation. He knows you. He formed you with intention and redeems you with love. And when He says, “You are mine,” He is placing His seal of ownership and protection on you.
Here are some things you can today to help you along your journey.
Write your name and the phrase “I am God’s” somewhere you’ll see it throughout the day. Let it remind you of your identity.
Take five minutes to thank God for calling you by name and redeeming you.
Reach out to someone who may feel forgotten and remind them of their worth.
Whenever fear or doubt creeps in, respond out loud with, “I am His. He knows my name.” Stand on the truth that no matter what you face today, you belong to the One who created you.
Father, thank You for knowing me fully and still calling me Yours. In a world that so often labels and discards, You name and claim. Help me live today in the freedom of knowing I am not forgotten, I am redeemed, named, and loved. Remind me that I do not need to fear because I am never alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
