Don’t Worry, He’s Got You
05/03/2025
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
—Matthew 6:25 (NIV)
In a world filled with uncertainties, anxiety has become a constant companion for many. Jesus speaks directly to this in our verse today. These words are part of His famous Sermon on the Mount, where He challenges His followers to live differently, anchored in trust rather than worry.
Jesus begins this verse with the word “Therefore,” linking it to the previous section where He says we cannot serve both God and money. Worry, He explains, is often rooted in a divided heart, a tug-of-war between trust in God and reliance on worldly security. When we chase after what we think we need, we lose sight of who provides for our actual needs.
Let’s be honest: life brings legitimate concerns. Bills, health, relationships, jobs, it can feel overwhelming. I once knew a single mom named Angela who worked three jobs just to keep food on the table. Her faith was remarkable, but she still wrestled with the fear of not having enough. One day, after yet another unexpected expense hit her, she finally broke down in prayer, saying, “Lord, I can’t do this alone.” That week, groceries showed up on her doorstep, left anonymously by someone from her church. She wept not because of the food, but because it reminded her: God saw her.
Jesus doesn’t dismiss our needs, He simply redirects our focus. He reminds us that life is more than food and clothes. Our value doesn’t come from what we have, but from Whose we are. If He gave us life, will He not sustain it? If He gave us a body, will He not clothe it? Jesus isn’t saying we should be careless. He’s saying we should be carefree, confident that our Father knows what we need and will take care of us.
Here are a few things you can do today to help you on your journey.
Write down three things you’ve been worrying about lately. Pray over each one and ask God to help you release them.
Memorize Matthew 6:25 and say it aloud whenever anxiety creeps in.
Make a gratitude list today. Noticing how God has already provided can help calm the fear of what’s next.
Trade worry for worship. The next time your mind drifts toward fear, speak out loud a praise instead. Remind yourself of God’s faithfulness. Let your heart be lifted not by what you can control, but by Who is in control.
Father, thank You for knowing my needs before I even speak them. Help me to trust You more and worry less. Remind me that my life is in Your hands, not mine. Calm my anxious thoughts and draw my focus back to You. Provide where I cannot and strengthen me to walk in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
