Confident in the Process
05/02/2025
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
—Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
Have you ever started a project full of excitement, only to hit a wall somewhere in the middle? Maybe it was a home improvement task, a fitness goal, or even a new habit you were trying to build. Starting is often easier than finishing. But when it comes to our spiritual journey, Paul offers us this powerful promise: what God starts, He finishes.
Paul was writing this letter from prison, and yet his words are full of joy and hope. He’s reminding the believers in Philippi, and us today, that God is not in the business of abandonment. He doesn’t walk away halfway through the job. If God has begun a good work in your heart, you can rest assured He is still at work, even if you don’t always see the progress.
Think about a sculptor who begins with a rough block of stone. From the outside, it might look like a mess for a while, chisel marks, dust, and debris. But the artist knows the beauty that’s being shaped within. That’s how God works with us. You may see your flaws, your setbacks, your unanswered prayers, but He sees the masterpiece in progress.
And notice this: Paul doesn’t say we have to finish the work. God will. It’s not about striving harder to be perfect but surrendering more deeply to His process. That “good work” includes forming Christlike character, building resilience, and preparing you for the specific calling He’s placed on your life.
If you’re in a season of waiting or discouragement, hear this today: God has not stopped. He hasn’t paused your development. The process may be slow, but His promise is sure. You’re not a half-finished project, you’re a work in progress that the Master has no intention of abandoning.
Here are a few things you can do today to help you on your journey.
Reflect on a moment when God has brought growth or transformation in your life. Write it down.
Surrender one area where you’ve felt stuck or discouraged to God in prayer.
Encourage someone else who feels unfinished. Remind them that God is still working.
Choose to live today with confidence, not in yourself, but in God’s commitment to finish what He started. When doubts creep in, speak Philippians 1:6 aloud and declare it over your life.
Father, thank You that You never leave a job unfinished. Thank You for the good work You have started in me. Help me to trust Your process, especially when I can’t see the full picture. I surrender the areas where I feel stuck or unworthy. Shape me, mold me, and use me. I place my confidence not in my strength, but in Your promise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
