More Than You Can Ask or Imagine

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

There are moments in life when our prayers feel too small in the face of great needs. Other times, our dreams feel too big for the reality we’re living in. Maybe you’ve been there, on your knees, unsure of how to even put your longings into words. Paul’s words in Ephesians remind us that the God we serve is not limited by our vocabulary or imagination. He is able to do immeasurably more.
Think about that, immeasurably more. Not a little more. Not just enough. Not just what we hoped for. But beyond measurement, beyond even what we dare to dream. This verse sits at the end of a beautiful prayer Paul prayed for the Ephesian church, a prayer that they would be filled with the fullness of God. And then he drops this breathtaking doxology. Why? Because the truth is, even Paul’s boldest prayers couldn’t capture the full scope of God’s power and grace.
Imagine a child drawing a picture of a house with crayons, simple, shaky lines and stick figures in the yard. That’s often how our prayers look in comparison to God’s plan. Then imagine the master architect unveiling a stunning design with rich textures, detailed rooms, and breathtaking views. That’s the difference between what we ask and what God can do.
This truth isn’t just for our comfort, it’s for God’s glory. “To him be glory in the church.” That means your life, your breakthrough, your healing, your restoration, it’s not just for you. It’s a testimony of His power. And every generation will see His faithfulness as we live out the evidence of His “more.”
You might be in a season where you’re asking for provision, healing, restoration, or direction. Be encouraged, He’s not only listening, but already working beyond what you can grasp. And His power isn’t distant; it’s “at work within us.” That means the Spirit of God is already stirring things in your life, shifting situations, preparing people, and aligning circumstances that will one day reveal just how much more He had in mind all along.
Here are a few things you can do to help you on your journey. Let God speak to you through these today.
Write down the biggest prayer you’re afraid to pray and then pray it anyway.
Reflect on a time when God exceeded your expectations.
Share a testimony of God’s provision or breakthrough with someone this week.
Memorize Ephesians 3:20–21 and declare it in your prayers.
Dream boldly. Ask freely. Trust fully. Whatever you’re facing, know this: God’s “immeasurably more” is already in motion.
Father, thank You that You are not limited by my understanding or imagination. Forgive me for the times I’ve prayed too small or doubted Your ability. I trust that You are working even now, doing far more than I can ask or think. Use my life as a testimony of Your glory and Your power. Help me to live with bold faith and expectant hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
