The Earth Will Be Filled

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
— Habakkuk 2:14 (NIV)
Habakkuk lived in a time of uncertainty, injustice, and coming judgment. It felt like evil was winning, and the prophet wrestled deeply with God about it. But in the middle of all the warnings and woes, God gave this breathtaking promise: a day was coming when His glory would not be hidden or confined, it would cover the earth as completely as the oceans fill the seabed.
Imagine standing on a beach, looking out at the vast, endless expanse of water. It touches everything. It leaves no dry spot. That’s the picture God gives us: His presence, His truth, His majesty will one day saturate every corner of the earth. Not just glimpses. Not just moments. A complete, overwhelming, undeniable knowledge of His glory.
We live in a world today that still wrestles with brokenness, confusion, and rebellion against God. At times it feels overwhelming. But this verse reminds us: the story isn’t over yet. God is not absent. He is working, moving, setting the stage for the day when His reign will be fully realized.
Think about the small ways this is already happening. When a neighbor shows kindness. When a family is restored. When someone chooses forgiveness over bitterness. Every time we share the love and truth of Christ, we help usher in a little more of that promised future, filling the earth with the knowledge of His glory.
Here are a few things you can do to help you on your journey.
Meditate on God’s greatness today. Spend five minutes just thinking about the vastness of the oceans and how much greater His glory is.
Pray for God’s glory to be revealed in your community, workplace, and family.
Look for opportunities to be a reflection of His glory by offering grace, kindness, and truth in your daily interactions.
Share a testimony with someone about a moment when you experienced God’s glory personally.
Ask yourself: How can I be part of filling the earth with the knowledge of God’s glory today? Look for one intentional way to reflect His character to someone you meet.
Father, I thank You for the promise that Your glory will one day cover the earth like the waters cover the sea. Even when the world feels chaotic and dark, I trust in Your plan. Help me today to reflect Your light and Your truth in the places You send me. Let my life be a small stream that flows into the great river of Your glory filling the earth. Give me boldness, give me compassion, and give me eyes to see Your hand at work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
