In the Beginning……God

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
– Genesis 1:1 NIV

There’s something extremely powerful about beginnings. The first line of the Bible sets the tone for everything that follows: “In the beginning God…” Before time started ticking, before matter took shape, before light split from darkness, God was there.

Today’s verse isn’t just a historical statement, it’s a theological declaration. It reminds us that God is the source of everything. Everything you see, touch, hear, and feel was brought into existence by the creative power of God. That includes the stars scattered across the sky, the oceans roaring on the shore, and the breath in your lungs.

Have you ever spoken to someone who had recently come to faith. Many of them say they always thought life was a random series of events until they read and understood Genesis 1:1. That verse changes everything. Think about it, it tells us there was purpose, there was design, and, most importantly, there was a Designer.

When we understand that God is the origin, we also come to understand that we are not here by accident. Our lives have meaning because they began in the mind and heart of a Creator who called us into existence with purpose.

This verse also speaks to us when we’re about to step into a new chapter of life. Whether it’s a new job, a new relationship, or even rebuilding after loss. “In the beginning God…” should be the phrase etched on our hearts. Invite Him into every beginning, and let Him lead.

Here are a few things you can do to recognize the magnitude of today’s verse.

Reflect on a beginning you’re currently facing, big or small, and invite God into it.

Journal your thoughts about where you see God’s hand in your life story so far.

Take time to marvel at creation today, go outside, observe, and thank God for His artistry.

Start something today with God first. Whether it’s a project, a prayer, or even a conversation, begin it with the conscious acknowledgment that God is your Creator and Guide.

Creator God, thank You for being there in the beginning and for being here with me now. I acknowledge that all things come from You and that my life is not random but part of Your divine plan. Help me to trust You with every new beginning. May I invite You into every step and honor You with every breath. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
