God at Work Within You
03/31/2025
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
— Philippians 2:13 NIV
Have you ever felt inadequate or unsure about what God wants from your life? Maybe you’ve looked at your flaws or failures and thought, “There’s no way God could use someone like me.” But today’s verse offers us a powerful reminder: it’s not all up to us. It is God Himself who is working in us. Not only shaping our desires but also giving us the strength to act on them, for His good purpose.
This verse follows Paul’s call to “continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” but he quickly reminds us that we’re not doing it alone. We are not left to figure it all out by ourselves. The Creator of the universe is actively working in us. The Greek word for “works” here is energeō, the same root we get “energy” from. God energizes us from within, planting the desire and providing the power to carry it out.
Think of a sailboat. The sailor can hoist the sails and steer the rudder, but it’s the wind that moves the boat. In the same way, we align ourselves with God, through obedience, prayer, and humility, but it’s His Spirit that fills our sails and moves us forward.
When Moses felt unqualified, God reminded him, “I will be with you.” When Jeremiah feared he was too young, God said, “I have put my words in your mouth.” Over and over in Scripture, we see this truth played out: God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.
You might not feel like your will is strong enough. That’s okay. God is working in you. You might feel like your actions fall short. That’s okay too. God is still at work. And the best part? He is committed to completing the good work He began in you.
Here are a few ways for you to implement today’s message into your life.
Pray intentionally today and ask God to align your desires with His purpose.
Write down one area where you feel weak or unsure and ask God to work through that weakness.
Take one small step of obedience today—whether it’s reaching out to someone, starting a new habit, or letting go of fear.
Let go of the pressure to perform perfectly. Instead, rest in the promise that God is working in you. Trust Him to shape your will and empower your actions. Be willing, and let Him be the worker.
Father, thank You for never leaving me to figure things out on my own. Thank You for working in me—to shape my desires and to give me the power to follow through. Help me to trust You more, especially when I feel weak or inadequate. Use my life to fulfill Your good purpose, and may I be open to wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
