Go and Make Disciples
03/01/2025
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
– Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
These words, spoken by Jesus before His ascension, form what we call The Great Commission. It is not merely a suggestion but a command, a divine mandate that extends to every believer. Jesus didn’t say, “If you feel like it, go and make disciples.” He didn’t limit this mission to pastors, missionaries, or church leaders. It is a call for all who follow Him.
Jesus’ directive carries a sense of urgency and purpose. The word “go” implies movement, action, and intentionality. Making disciples is not a passive process, it requires effort, time, and personal investment in others. We are called to step outside our comfort zones, engage with people from different backgrounds, and share the life-changing message of the gospel.
Notice that Jesus says to make disciples, not just converts. A disciple is someone who learns, grows, and follows Jesus closely. Discipleship isn’t just about leading someone to pray a salvation prayer; it’s about walking alongside them in their faith journey, helping them mature spiritually, and equipping them to disciple others in turn.
The commission is also universal. Jesus says “of all nations.” The gospel is not confined to one group, race, or culture. It is for every tribe, tongue, and people. Whether it’s across the ocean or across the street, we are to bring the good news to those who need it.
Here are a few things you can do to become a disciple maker today!
Start where you are.
Who in your life needs to hear about Jesus? A coworker, a friend, a neighbor, or even a family member? Begin praying for opportunities to share your faith.
Live as a disciple-maker. Discipleship is not just about teaching; it’s about modeling Christ in your daily life. How you love, serve, and speak should reflect Jesus.
Support global missions. Whether through prayer, financial giving, or going yourself, be involved in spreading the gospel to the nations.
Baptism as a step of obedience. If you haven’t been baptized, consider taking this step as an outward declaration of your faith. If you know someone who has accepted Christ, encourage them toward baptism as well.
Go and make disciples today!
Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with the mission of making disciples. Give us boldness to share Your love and wisdom to lead others in faith. Help us to be intentional in our everyday lives, seeing opportunities to bring people closer to You. May we be faithful to Your calling, knowing that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
