Trusting God with Tomorrow
10/28/2024
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
In this verse, Jesus encourages us to focus on the present rather than getting caught up in the anxieties of tomorrow. He acknowledges that each day has its own challenges and encourages us to trust that He’ll provide for us, moment by moment. Worrying about the future not only drains today’s joy but also signals a lack of trust in God’s plan and provision.
Picture someone with an overloaded suitcase, packed with every “just-in-case” item they can imagine. The suitcase becomes so heavy they can hardly carry it. Often, our worries are like that suitcase, overloaded with concerns about things that might happen tomorrow. Jesus wants us to unpack that load, carrying only today’s needs and concerns, and trusting Him to take care of the rest.
Jesus isn’t suggesting we ignore planning or pretend life is without difficulty. Rather, He’s inviting us to experience true peace, trusting that God is already present in our tomorrows and prepared to meet us in whatever we face.
Here are three things we can do everyday to help us learn how to not worry about tomorrow.
Identify Today’s Needs
Write down today’s tasks and concerns. Hand over anything that doesn’t need to be carried today to God in prayer.
Limit ‘What-Ifs’
Notice when your thoughts start wandering into “what-if” territory about the future. Gently remind yourself that God holds all tomorrows, and redirect your focus back to today.
Reflect on God’s Faithfulness
Recall past times when you were anxious about the future, but God provided and guided you through. Let those memories reinforce your trust in His ongoing care.
Remember, Jesus lived His entire life knowing that the cross was coming , but He didn’t let it consume His everyday
.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the peace You offer. Help me to rest in Your provision and let go of my fears about the future. Teach me to trust that You hold my tomorrows and to focus on being faithful today. Help me to live each day grounded in Your love, unburdened by worries that only You can carry. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
