Seeking the Kingdom First
8/21/2024
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
In a world that constantly demands our attention, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of daily necessities—food, clothing, security, and success. We often find ourselves worrying about the future, wondering if we'll have enough to meet our needs. Yet, in Matthew 6:33, Jesus invites us to shift our focus from these earthly concerns to something far greater: the Kingdom of God.
Jesus reminds us of the importance of prioritizing our relationship with God above all else. He tells us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that when we do so, everything else we need will be provided for us.
To "seek first his kingdom" means to prioritize God's rule and reign in our lives. It's a call to align our thoughts, decisions, and actions with His will. When we place God's kingdom at the center of our lives, everything else falls into its rightful place. Jesus assures us that when we seek Him first, the needs we worry about will be taken care of by our Heavenly Father.
It can be easy to get caught up in the worries and concerns of this world, focusing on our own desires and needs. But Jesus encourages us to shift our focus to Him, to seek after His will and His ways above all else. When we make God our top priority, everything else falls into place.
This doesn't mean that we should neglect our responsibilities or disregard practical needs. Instead, it's about trusting that God knows what we need and that He is faithful to provide. As we seek Him, we learn to rely less on our own efforts and more on His grace.
So today, let's take a moment to reflect on where our priorities lie. Are we seeking after the things of this world, or are we seeking after God and His kingdom? Let's commit to putting Him first in all that we do, trusting that He will provide for our every need.
Let's choose to put God first in all that we do. Whether it's in our work, relationships, or daily choices, let our primary pursuit be His kingdom and righteousness. As we do, we will experience the peace and provision that comes from knowing our lives are securely held in His hands.
May we seek after His kingdom and His righteousness with all our hearts, knowing that when we do, everything else will fall into place.
Lord, help me to seek Your kingdom above all else. Teach me to trust in Your provision and to prioritize Your will in every area of my life. May my actions reflect Your righteousness, and may I find peace in knowing that You care for all my needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.
