Walking in Love

"And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love."
- 2 John 1:6 (NIV)
Love is such a central theme in the Christian faith. It is the foundation of our relationship with God and with others. In this verse, we are reminded that true love is demonstrated through our obedience to God's commands. It's not just about saying we love God or others, but it's about living out that love through our actions.
In this verse, the Apostle John succinctly defines love as walking in obedience to God's commands. This call to obedience is not just about adhering to a set of rules; it’s about aligning our hearts and lives with the will of God. True love, as John describes, is a dynamic and active commitment to live according to the teachings and example of Jesus.
The phrase "walk in love" suggests a continuous, daily journey. God's command is simple yet profound. It implies that love is not merely a feeling but an ongoing action and lifestyle. As believers, we are called to reflect Christ's love in our relationships, decisions, and interactions with others. This means showing patience, kindness, and forgiveness, even when it is difficult. It means serving others selflessly and putting their needs above our own. It means forgiving those who have wronged us and extending grace to those who may not deserve it.
Today, consider how you can actively walk in love. Reflect on these questions in the areas of obedience, relationships and service.
Obedience:
Are there areas in your life where you struggle to follow God's commands?
What steps can you take to align your actions more closely with His will?
Relationships:
How can you show Christ-like love to those around you today?
Is there someone who needs your forgiveness, encouragement, or help?
Service:
In what ways can you serve others selflessly, mirroring the love Jesus showed us?
As we go about our day, let us remember this important command from God. Let us strive to walk in love in all that we do, knowing that this is the truest expression of our faith. May our lives be a reflection of God's love for us, and may we continually seek to grow in our love for Him and for others.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the perfect example of love given to us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to walk in obedience to Your commands and to live out Your love daily. Give us the strength to love others as You have loved us, and guide our steps so that we may reflect Your grace and mercy in all we do. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
