Building Yourself Up in Faith

"But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life."
- Jude 1:20-21 ESV
In the book of Jude, we find a powerful exhortation to believers to stand firm in their faith amidst challenging times. Jude urges us to actively engage in the spiritual disciplines that strengthen our relationship with God. He is warning the believers to stop believing the false witnesses and teachers of that time. Let's dive deeper into these verses and discover how we can apply them to our lives today.
Building Yourself Up in Faith. Just as we care for our physical bodies through exercise and nourishment, we are called to nurture our spiritual lives. Building ourselves up in faith involves actively seeking to grow closer to God through prayer, studying His Word, and fellowship with other believers. It's a continuous process of deepening our understanding of God's character and His promises.
Praying in the Holy Spirit.
Prayer is our direct line of communication with God. When we pray in the Holy Spirit, we allow the Spirit to intercede for us according to God's will (Romans 8:26-27). This type of prayer is characterized by surrender and openness to God's leading. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, our prayers become more aligned with God's purposes, and we experience His transformative power in our lives.
Keeping Yourself in the Love of God. The love of God is our foundation and source of strength. To keep ourselves in His love means to remain steadfast in our devotion to Him, even amidst trials and temptations. It involves living in obedience to His commandments and trusting in His unfailing love, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
Waiting for the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. As believers, we eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of His promises. Our hope is anchored in His mercy, which offers forgiveness, redemption, and eternal life to all who believe in Him. While we wait, we live with anticipation and readiness, knowing that our ultimate destiny is secure in Christ.
Jude's words serve as a timeless reminder for us to actively engage in our spiritual growth, to pray fervently, to abide in God's love, and to eagerly await the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. May we heed these words and be strengthened in our faith as we journey with Him each day.
As we wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remain rooted in our faith, prayer, and God's love. Let us continuously seek to grow in our relationship with Him, trusting in His faithfulness and resting in His love. May we be strengthened by His Spirit and find hope in the promise of eternal life that He has given us.
May our Father in heaven, help us to listen to the warnings of Jude and actively engage in building ourselves up in our faith. May He continually teach us to pray in the power of His Spirit, to abide in His love, and to eagerly await His return. And may He strengthen us, and lead us in the paths of righteousness.
