We Know Not The Hour

"Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come." - Mark 13:33 ESV
In the busyness of today, it is often easy to get caught up in our own plans and schedules. We meticulously plan our days, weeks, and months, filling them with various activities and responsibilities. We set alarms, mark calendars, and create to-do lists to ensure that we stay on track and accomplish all that we have set out to do. Yet, in the middle of all our planning, there is one vital aspect of life that remains, uncertain - the hour of the Lord's return.
Jesus, in His infinite wisdom, warns His disciples and us to be on guard and keep awake, for we do not know when the time will come. This verse serves as a powerful reminder that, despite all our planning, we cannot control or predict the exact moment when Jesus will come back. It is a stark reminder that our lives are not in our hands but in the hands of our Lord and Savior.
Living with the awareness that we know not the hour of Christ's return should change the way we approach our daily lives. It should motivate us to live with a sense of urgency, purpose, and readiness. We are called to be vigilant, always watchful for the signs of His coming and prepared for His arrival.
As believers, we are not to be consumed by worry or fear regarding the end times. Instead, we are to live in a state of constant readiness, faithfully carrying out the tasks and responsibilities the Lord has entrusted to us. We are to be faithful stewards of our time, talents, and resources, using them wisely for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom.
Listen, the uncertainty of the hour should remind us how brief and fragile life really is. Our days are fleeting, and our time on this earth is limited. We must not take our lives for granted, assuming we have endless opportunities to fulfill our God-given purposes. Rather, we should seize each moment as an opportunity to love and serve others, to share the good news of salvation, and to live wholeheartedly for Christ.
Ultimately, the uncertainty of the hour of Christ's return should lead us to surrender our lives completely to Him. We must release our grip on our own plans and trust in His perfect timing. We must be willing to let go of our own agendas and align our hearts with His divine purpose. In doing so, we will find peace, joy, and fulfillment in the knowledge that we are living in accordance with His will.
So my friends, as we navigate the uncertainties of life, let us remember the words of Jesus: "Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come." May this truth guide our every step, keeping us focused on what truly matters - a life lived in faithful anticipation of the return of our Lord. Let us live each day with intentionality, purpose, and readiness, for we know not the hour, but we trust in the One who holds it all in His hands.
