Forgiveness Has a Name

04/30/2026

Some people spend their whole lives wondering if God could really forgive them. They believe forgiveness is possible for others, but struggle to believe it is available for them. Scripture reminds us that forgiveness is not reserved for the polished, perfect, or religiously impressive. It is offered to everyone who believes in Jesus.

“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Acts 10:43 NIV

Peter spoke these words in the house of Cornelius, a Gentile, a man many Jewish believers would have considered outside the circle of God’s promise. Yet God was making something beautifully clear: the good news of Jesus was not limited by background, ethnicity, past mistakes, religious history, or human labels.

Peter says, “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness.” Not everyone who performs enough. Not everyone who explains everything perfectly. Not everyone who has never failed. Everyone who believes.

That is the power of the gospel.

Forgiveness is not God pretending sin does not matter. Forgiveness is God declaring that Jesus has fully dealt with it. The cross was not a temporary covering; it was a complete payment. Through the name of Jesus, guilt loses its grip, shame loses its voice, and the past loses its power to define us.

Maybe today you are carrying something you have confessed before but still keep rehearsing in your mind. Maybe you believe God forgave you, but you have not forgiven yourself. Acts 10:43 invites you to stop arguing with grace. If Jesus has forgiven you, you do not have to keep living under a sentence He already canceled.

Walk today as someone forgiven. Not because you earned it, but because Jesus gave it.

Take a few minutes to thank God specifically for His forgiveness.

Release one old failure you have been carrying.

Speak this truth over yourself: “Through Jesus, I am forgiven.”

Extend grace to someone else because grace has been extended to you.

Today, refuse to let shame preach louder than the gospel. When guilt reminds you of what you have done, remind guilt of what Jesus has finished.

Lord Jesus, thank You that forgiveness comes through Your name. Thank You that Your grace reaches everyone who believes, including me. Help me stop carrying what You have already forgiven. Teach me to walk in freedom, humility, and gratitude today. Amen.
