Where Your Heart Truly Lives

01/15/2026

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

Jesus has a way of cutting straight to the core. In one short sentence, He reveals something deeply personal about every one of us: our hearts are always tied to what we value most. We don’t have to guess where our hearts are, we can look at where our time, energy, money, and attention consistently go.

Think about how easily our hearts attach themselves to things that feel urgent or rewarding. A new purchase, a growing account, recognition, comfort, or even control. None of those things are evil on their own, but when they become our treasure, they quietly begin to shape our priorities and our peace. We worry about what we treasure. We protect what we treasure. We measure success by what we treasure.

Jesus isn’t shaming us here, He’s inviting us. He’s lovingly asking, Is what you’re living for worthy of your heart? Because whatever holds first place doesn’t just occupy our schedule; it forms our soul.

Imagine someone investing everything they have into a house built on shifting sand. It may look beautiful for a season, but when storms come, cracks appear. In the same way, treasures rooted only in this world cannot carry the weight of our hope. But when our treasure is Christ, His kingdom, His righteousness, His purposes, our hearts become anchored to something eternal, unshakeable, and life-giving.

This verse is less about money and more about alignment. When our treasure is in God’s hands, our hearts follow Him into freedom, trust, and peace. The question for today isn’t Do I treasure God? but rather What does my life reveal that I treasure most?

Action Steps:
• Take five quiet minutes and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what currently holds your heart.
• Review how you spent your time and money this past week—what story does it tell?
• Choose one intentional act today that invests in eternal things: prayer, generosity, encouragement, or service.
• Verbally surrender one misplaced treasure back to God.

Today’s challenge:
Ask yourself honestly: If someone followed me for a week, where would they say my heart lives? Then take one step to realign your treasure with God’s kingdom.

Prayer:
Lord, search my heart and show me what I truly treasure. If anything has taken Your place, I surrender it to You today. Teach me to invest my life in what lasts forever. Let my heart be anchored in You, not in the things that fade. Shape my desires so they reflect Your kingdom, Your priorities, and Your love. Amen.
