Fixing Our Eyes
04/01/2026
Life has a way of pulling our eyes everywhere. Toward problems, toward people, toward pressure, toward the past. We replay conversations. We anticipate outcomes. We compare ourselves. And before long, we’re no longer running with purpose, we’re reacting to everything around us.
That’s exactly what this verse speaks into.
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” — Hebrews 12:2
There’s something powerful about where we choose to look.
I remember driving through a heavy Texas storm one night. Rain coming down so hard you could barely see the road. The moment I took my eyes off the lines in front of me, even for a second, the car started to drift. Not dramatically, just enough to feel it. And that’s what caught my attention…you don’t have to completely lose focus to get off course. Just a slight shift can move you in the wrong direction.
What that taught me was, we don’t drift because we’re weak… we drift because our focus shifts.
The writer of Hebrews gives us a better focus: fix your eyes on Jesus.
Not glance at Him.
Not check in occasionally.
Fix your eyes.
Why? Because He is both the pioneer and the perfecter of our faith. That means He not only started the work in you, He will finish it. Your faith is not dependent on your consistency; it’s anchored in His.
And then there’s this powerful line: “For the joy set before him he endured the cross…”
Think about that.
Jesus didn’t endure the cross because it felt good.
He endured it because He could see beyond it.
He saw redemption.
He saw restoration.
He saw you.
There was a joy ahead that made the suffering worth it.
That changes how we see our own struggles. When your eyes are fixed on your circumstances, pain feels pointless. But when your eyes are fixed on Jesus, even your hardest moments can carry purpose.
The cross was not the end of His story, and your current situation is not the end of yours.
So today, where are your eyes?
Are they fixed on what’s wrong…
or fixed on the One who makes all things right?
Action Steps
• Take 5 minutes today to intentionally refocus, no phone, no noise—l, just sit and remind yourself who Jesus is.
• When stress rises, pause and ask: “What am I looking at right now?” Then shift your focus back to Him.
• Replace one worry today with a declaration of truth: “Jesus, You are in control of this.”
Challenge for the Day
Catch yourself every time your focus drifts into fear, comparison, or frustration, and consciously reset your gaze back to Jesus.
Prayer
Lord, I confess how easily my eyes wander. I get distracted by what I see and feel, and I lose sight of You. Today, help me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the One who started this work in me and will carry it through. Give me the perspective to see beyond my current struggles and trust in the joy You are bringing. Strengthen my faith, steady my heart, and keep my focus on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
