Morning Guidance

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
— Psalm 143:8 (NIV)

Have you ever been at the end of your rope? Nothing seemed to be going right? You were tempted time after time to raise the white flag and surrender? Not to God, but to the chaos?

It was a time much this when David wrote these words. He was in the middle of a season of distress. Enemies surrounded him. His spirit felt faint. His future seemed uncertain. Yet with all that pressure, David did something powerful. He turned his attention toward the morning and toward God.

Really look at what he said, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love.” Before direction, before answers, before solutions, David asks to be reminded of God’s love.

Is that what you do?

Many of us wake up and immediately begin thinking about the day ahead. Our first thoughts are on the meetings, the responsibilities, the decisions, the challenges. Our minds rush to the “what should I do?” questions. But David shows us that the better first thought is on God and the love Jesus has for us.

You see, when we begin the day anchored in God’s unfailing love, everything else falls into the proper perspective.

I personally start my day with something one of my trusted pastors calls the first 15. Five minutes of worship music, five minutes of reading the Word and five minutes of prayer.

Over the years this has evolved into a lot more time than fifteen minutes. It’s become of time of deeper study, deeper prayer, a time I write even these devotionals. But it’s not always been like that.

I started small and have allowed God to direct the flowing these precious moments with Him. I find when I do this, all the answers didn’t come all at once. But peace did. And when peace comes first, clarity often follows.

I will also say that if for some reason I don’t take this opportunity to be with God, He has a way of gently reminding me, normally mid-afternoon, right in the middle of the chaos.

You see, the chaos is there whether I spend time with Him or not….but His peace is absent, so I notice and feel the chaos.

David then says, “Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”

Guidance flows from trust.

God rarely gives step ten when we’re still standing at step one. But when we entrust our lives to Him daily, especially in the quiet of the morning, He faithfully directs our steps one decision at a time.

Every sunrise is a reminder that God’s mercies are new. And every morning is an invitation to begin again with trust.

Action Steps
• Begin your day with a simple prayer before looking at your phone or schedule.
• Reflect on one way you have seen God’s unfailing love in your life recently.
• Ask God specifically for guidance in one decision you are facing today.
• Write down what you sense God prompting you to do and take the next faithful step.

Challenge for the Day
Before the day gets busy, pause for fifteen minutes. Worship Him, read His word, and pray. Ask Him to remind you of His love and to show you the next step in the path He has for you today.

Prayer
Lord, as this morning begins, remind me of your unfailing love. Quiet the noise in my mind and the worries in my heart. I place my trust in you and entrust my life into your hands again today. Lead me in the way I should go. Give me wisdom in my decisions, peace in my spirit, and courage to follow where you guide. Thank you for loving me faithfully, even when the path ahead is unclear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
