Wounded for Our Healing

04/03/2026

There are some verses that don’t let us stay on the surface level. They pull us in, all the way to the Cross, and make us stand there long enough to remember what Jesus truly carried for us. Today’s verse is one of those verses. It is not just a statement about suffering. It is a window into the cost of our redemption and the depth of God’s love.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
-Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

Long before the nails, before the crown of thorns, before the soldiers and the shouting crowd, God had already spoken through Isaiah about what His Servant would endure. Jesus did not stumble into suffering. He stepped into it with purpose. Every lash was wrapped in forgiveness. Every wound had meaning. Every blow carried mercy. Every moment of pain rested in redemption.

This verse reminds us that our sin was not ignored; it was paid for. Our transgressions, our iniquities, our rebellion, our guilt, our shame, He took it all. Jesus was pierced for what WE did. He was crushed for what WE carried. The punishment that should have landed on US was placed on Him instead. That is not just sacrifice. That is love beyond words.

I think about moments in life when pain seems to come from every direction, when the report is not what you hoped for, when the prayer has not yet been answered, when your heart feels bruised by disappointment, betrayal, or fear. In those moments, the enemy loves to whisper that God has forgotten you. But the Cross says otherwise. The Cross declares that God did not turn away from our deepest need. He entered it.

There is a difference between patching a wound and healing it. We often want God to simply cover what hurts. He wants to go deeper. He heals at the root. Sometimes that healing is physical. Sometimes it is emotional. Sometimes it is spiritual. Sometimes it is the slow restoration of a heart that has been broken by sin, regret, or grief. But make no mistake, because of Jesus, healing is not a fantasy for the believer. It is part of the promise of redemption.

Peace is not pretending everything is fine. Peace is knowing that because of Jesus, the biggest issue has already been settled. Sin has been addressed. Separation has been bridged. Mercy has been given. We do not have to strive to earn what Christ has already won. This peace had a price and it was purchased with His blood.

Today, do not rush past this verse. Stay with it. Let it humble you. Let it steady you. Let it heal something in you. The wounds of Jesus mean your wounds do not get the final word.

Today, take a few moments to thank Jesus specifically for what He carried for you.
Bring one area of pain, sin, fear, or brokenness before God and ask for His healing touch.
Choose to walk in peace today, reminding yourself that Jesus already bore what would have crushed you.

Your challenge today is to stop minimizing the Cross. Live like His sacrifice truly changed everything for you.

Jesus, thank You for being pierced for my transgressions and crushed for my iniquities. Thank You for taking my punishment so I could have peace with You. Thank You that Your wounds opened the door for my healing. Help me not to take Your sacrifice lightly. Heal the places in me that are still broken, restore what sin and sorrow have damaged, and teach me to live in the peace You purchased for me. In Your mighty name, amen.
