Worthy of It All

Most of us spend a lot of time giving value to things. We decide what’s worth our time, our money, our attention, and our affection. But every now and then, Scripture pulls our eyes away from ourselves and reminds us of the only One who is truly worthy. Revelation 4:11 is one of those moments. Before it says anything about us, it tells us everything about Him.
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
- Revelation 4:11 (ESV)
This verse comes from a breathtaking scene around the throne of God. In Revelation 4, John isn’t describing a church service on earth. He’s giving us a glimpse into heaven itself. The elders lay their crowns before the throne, not because someone told them to, but because they realize that every honor they’ve ever received pales in comparison to the One seated there. Their worship isn’t forced. It’s the only reasonable response.
That challenges me because it’s easy to make worship about what I receive instead of who God is. We thank Him for answered prayers, for blessings, for protection, and those are all good things. But what if none of those things changed today? Would He still be worthy?
According to this verse, absolutely.
God is worthy because of who He is. He is the Creator of everything that exists. Every sunrise you’ve ever watched, every mountain you’ve stood beside, every child who’s taken a first breath, every heartbeat in your own chest, all of it exists because He willed it into being.
That changes how we approach worship. Worship isn’t simply singing songs on Sunday morning. It’s acknowledging God’s rightful place over every area of our lives. It’s recognizing that because He created us, He has the authority to direct us. The One who designed your life knows how your life is meant to be lived.
I also love the picture of the elders laying down their crowns. Crowns represent achievements, accomplishments, influence, and recognition. They don’t cling to them. They surrender them.
That’s a good reminder for us.
Whatever success we’ve experienced… whatever gifts we’ve been given… whatever influence God has entrusted to us… none of it ultimately belongs to us. We simply place it back at His feet because He is the source of it all.
Our culture constantly asks, “What’s in it for me?”
Heaven asks a different question: “Is He worthy?”
And the answer echoes throughout eternity.
Yes.
Every time.
Action Steps
* Spend a few minutes today praising God simply for who He is, not just for what He has done.
* Think about an area of your life where you’ve been holding tightly to control, success, or recognition. Intentionally surrender it to the Lord.
* Read all of Revelation 4 and picture the throne room of heaven. Let it reshape your view of God’s greatness before you begin praying about your own needs.
Challenge for the Day
Before asking God for anything today, spend five uninterrupted minutes simply worshiping Him for who He is. Let your praise be centered on His character, not your circumstances.
Prayer
Father, You alone are worthy of all glory, honor, and power. Thank You for creating me and sustaining me each day. Forgive me for the times I’ve made life more about myself than about You. Help me to live with open hands, laying every success, every dream, and every blessing at Your feet. May my worship flow from a heart that recognizes Your greatness, not just Your gifts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
