Walking Humbly With God

06/16/2026

We live in n a world that celebrates power, status, and self-promotion, but God calls His people to something very different. There was a time that I wondered what God truly desired from us. Was it more activity? More knowledge? More religious effort? Then I found through the prophet Micah, God gives a remarkably clear answer. His desire is not complicated, but it is life-changing. He wants hearts that reflect His character and lives that demonstrate His love.

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
- Micah 6:8 (ESV)

God’s requirements are not hidden behind complicated rituals or impossible standards. Micah reminds us that God has already shown us what is good. The challenge is not discovering God’s will, not at all, it’s living it.

First, we are called to do justice. Justice is more than a concept discussed in courtrooms or politics. It is treating people fairly, standing up for what is right, and refusing to take advantage of others. Justice shows up in everyday moments: how we conduct business, how we treat employees, how we respond to those who cannot benefit us, and how we speak for those whose voices are often ignored.

Second, we are called to love kindness. Notice that God doesn’t simply say to show kindness occasionally. He says to love it. Kindness should not be a reluctant obligation but a natural expression of a transformed heart. The world is filled with harsh words, criticism, and division. Followers of Christ have the opportunity to be different. A kind word, a listening ear, a forgiving spirit, or a simple act of generosity can change the direction of someone’s day—or even their life.

Finally, we are called to walk humbly with God. Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less. It is recognizing that every blessing, every opportunity, and every victory ultimately comes from the Lord. Humility keeps us dependent on God rather than trusting in our own strength. It reminds us that we are travelers on a journey, not owners of the road.

The beauty of this verse is its balance. Justice without kindness can become harsh. Kindness without justice can become compromise. Both become sustainable only when we walk humbly with God. As we stay close to Him, He shapes our hearts to reflect His.

Today, don’t overcomplicate your faith. Ask yourself three simple questions: Am I treating people fairly? Am I showing kindness? Am I walking closely with God? A life lived according to Micah 6:8 will stand out in a world desperately searching for hope.

Action Steps

* Look for one opportunity today to stand up for what is right, even if no one notices.
* Intentionally show kindness to someone who may not expect it.
* Spend a few quiet moments in prayer, asking God to reveal areas where pride may be hindering your walk with Him.

Challenge for the Day

Choose one interaction today and intentionally demonstrate all three qualities from Micah 6:8—justice, kindness, and humility.

Prayer

Father, thank You for making Your desires clear. Help me to do what is right, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with You each day. Guard me from pride, selfishness, and indifference. Let my life reflect Your character in the way I treat others and in the way I follow You. May my actions point people to Jesus and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
