Turn and Be Made New

05/06/2026

Sometimes the most powerful moments in life are not when everything is going right, but when we realize something needs to change. There is a holy tension in those moments… a stirring in the heart that says, “There’s more than this.” That’s exactly where this verse meets us today.

“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
- Acts 2:38 (NIV)

This moment takes place right after Peter boldly preaches to a crowd that had once rejected Jesus. The people are “cut to the heart” and ask, “What shall we do?” Peter’s response is simple—but life-changing.

First, he says repent. That word isn’t about shame, it’s about direction. It means to turn. Like driving down a road and realizing you’re headed the wrong way, repentance is the moment you don’t just feel bad, you change course. It’s not just emotion; it’s action.

Then he says be baptized. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation. It’s going public with your faith, declaring that the old life is gone and a new life has begun in Christ.

And then comes the promise: forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Not earned. Not achieved. Given.

Think about that, God doesn’t just wipe the slate clean and send you on your way. He fills you with His Spirit. He walks with you. He empowers you. He transforms you from the inside out.

This is the beauty of the gospel:
You turn to God… and He meets you with grace.
You surrender your past… and He gives you His presence.

Quick Action Steps:

* Take a moment to honestly ask: Is there an area in my life where I need to turn back to God?
* Thank Jesus specifically for the forgiveness He has given you.
* If you’ve never been baptized, begin praying about taking that next step of obedience.
* Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, decisions, and actions today.

Challenge for Today:
Don’t just feel convicted, respond. Identify one specific step of obedience and take action on it today.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your grace meets me right where I am, but loves me too much to leave me there. Show me where I need to turn, and give me the courage to follow You fully. Thank You for the forgiveness found in Jesus and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Lead me, guide me, and transform me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
